Vanilla-based perfume

Recommendations?

I don't like most general high street perfumes (Sorry) but I'm looking for something based around vanilla that isn't too sweet nor too masculine.

Perfumers I have bought from so far:
Serge lutens
Pierre Guillaume
Diptique (ok this is more high street)

I tend to like gourmande type perfumes...

Suggestions?

Sylvaine Delacourte has a collection of 5 vanilla-based fragrances, and you can get samples of all 5 for a tenner which can be redeemed against a full size. I love Virgile but they're all nice!

Thanks for this recommendation - amazing value for a tenner and I like 4/5 so that's a win! Loving vahina especially (even though it autocorrects to vagina)

Diptique Eau de Euelle, isn't a synthetic smelling vanilla is really lovely I get lots of positive comments when I wear it. It's my favourite autumnal scent, it's like a cashmere blanket.

If only there was one shop that sold all of these delicious sounding fragrances!!!

If you are in London, it's worth popping into Jovoy in Mayfair. It's a perfume paradise

Polimolly · 27/09/2022 22:18

Or you can search by note in their website

I usually dislike vanilla scents (too sweet) but last week had a spray of Dior Vanilla Diorama in Flannels and really liked it. Not too sweet and more complex than just vanilla, very nice.

trilobiterevival · 28/09/2022 01:01

diptique is not high street unless you are mainlining Selfridges.

Another vote for Kayali Vanilla, but it is on the sweet side.

Also agree with Guerlain's Shalimar, a gorgeous smoky non-sweet vintage vanilla. One of my all time favourites.

Theirs also library of fragrance for straight up scents

Can you still get those? used to love a vanilla-y one of theirs. Vanilla Ice Cream. I truly believe, of all the perfumes I've ever worn, that's the only one my OH has ever really liked.

I love the gourmande vanilla perfumes by Laura Mercier

Ariana Grandw has a surprising range of vanilla inspired perfumes. I was in the lift with someone who smelled divinely, and I had to ask. Who knew!

understatedmate · 29/09/2022 10:12

I wish I could find somewhere to try some of these!

Atelier Cologne - vanille incensé

Yum.

Look at the Notino site - they offer lots of 2ml samples, including quite a lot of 'niche' perfumes. I'm pretty sure the last time I looked that included Vanilla Vibes by Juliette Has a Gun for example.

It's a great way of trying without breaking the bank. You can also pick up samples from eBay but that's a bit more hit and miss both for choice and authenticity.

As previous posters have suggested Comptoir Sud Pacifique do a range of vanillas, and so does Laura Mercier. Until very recently I'd never ever found a vanilla perfume I liked, in fact, most of them would literally make me feel queasy. I was very much into fresh citrussy scents instead and avoided anything remotely sweet. However I tried a sample of Comptoir Vanille Coco and it worked really well on my skin - for me it accurately replicates the smell when you split a vanilla pod, combined with a warmth that doesn't suffocate you. I really love it. This also led me to try other vanillas and found that Laura Mercier's Almond Coco worked for me - it's always difficult to describe perfume, particularly as they react with individual chemistry but for me it's a light, sophisticated mix of pina colada and vanilla - which sounds dreadful, but really isn't.
