What shops / brands are actually worth spending money on?

So much rubbish quality in the shops. I have money to spend, but it's hard to find decent quality. I mean fabrics with a bit of stretch that don't fall to bits after three washes.

Where would you recommend spending money on half decent clothes, casual not fancy, that last more than one season? Ta

whats the opinion on Reiss? I have found a few things in there I want to buy (work clothes)

Boden had a lot in that I like this season - already have had one order and about the place the 2nd

Cos I have some but have to buy those in the shop as they can swamp me

MidnightMeltdown · 17/09/2022 10:49

I usually go to Jigsaw for quality

GettingStuffed · 17/09/2022 11:29

Roman original are great quality for the price, also bon Marche although some of their stuff is aimed a the older demographic they do have some nice pieces, and online Patra silk has some nice clothes but their prints are a bit marmite

Donotgogentle · 17/09/2022 11:39

Also agree on Jigsaw quality.

I buy a fair bit from Whistles but am less convinced by the quality there tbh, a fair bit of polyester and some items that haven’t lasted well.

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 17/09/2022 12:08

Jigsaw is good but you have to look at what you like. Have got some nice pieces in their sale (a blue striped skirt) and then a navy smocked long sleeved top.

Whistles, I've been surprised at too, I prefer to buy in sales. Lots of their really popular styles get sold out quickly.

ZittiEBuoni · 17/09/2022 12:11

I buy on Vinted/charity shops, but brands I search are Boden, Hobbs, Jigsaw, Whistles, &Other Stories, Toast, occasionally Hush and Mint Velvet.

MintJulia · 17/09/2022 12:22

I've struggled to find decent quality to fit a size 10, 5'8", natural fibres and well cut.

This year so far I've bought from Celtic &co, kilt and sweater. Two shirts from Hobbs, a crew neck lambswool top from Woolovers, trousers from Jigsaw, and a warm jacket from schoffel. Now looking for ankle boots and the only ones I like are £170

Prices have definitely gone up.😯

LadyLapsang · 17/09/2022 13:40

I rate Jigsaw, Me & Em, Sweaty Betty, 7 for all mankind, J Brand. I used to buy more from Boden, Hobbs, LK Bennett, but find I have enough office wear at the moment. Massimo Dutti can also be good and I like shopping in Liberty for a range of brands. Nicole Farhi has also provided some of my best investment pieces from sample sales, cashmere coats and butter soft leather boots - just cutting the buttons off a coat that I now have to admit is beyond another season but it is about 15 years old.

Lottapianos · 17/09/2022 16:31

Thanks for all the recommendations. I've got a lot of researching to do 😊

I have recently discovered Anyday in John Lewis and bought the boots they have for £65. Like the clothes, they are a good price and good quality.

Uniqlo, especially the Heatech is excellent.

All Saints is pricy but stylish and good quality.

Hush sweatshirts and joggers are great.

French Connection for jeans.

Vitriolinsanity · 17/09/2022 16:57

@Nopeihavenoidea dsis buys loads from Reid's. It's pricey, but she always looks amazing. I've bought several dresses for special occasions and they're gorgeous.

Helgadaley · 17/09/2022 16:58

House of Bruar for me, but it's not to everyone's taste.

Nopeihavenoidea · 17/09/2022 22:08

Thanks @Vitriolinsanity will buy them and hope they look good.

have things from All Saints & Brora - they both seem good quality. The silk dress I have from Brora is even weighted at the bottom

I usually go to Jigsaw for quality

And for more casual/practical stuff I think that Joules is good quality

Sadik · 18/09/2022 13:01

I've got a lambswool jumper from Brora which was expensive even in the sale, but beautifully cut & should last me for years.

PAFMO · 18/09/2022 13:08

Cos for thick cotton t-shirts

Joules for thick cotton stripy tops
Boden for trousers

M&S for almost everything- what's still good about M&S is you can decide to spend £8 on a plain t shirt, or £24. You decide which quality you want.

Arket for t shirts and tops.

pottydimley · 18/09/2022 21:14

Charity shops every time. But I never buy tatt, only good quality brands.

toomanychairs · 18/09/2022 21:35

TOAST, Muji, Everlane, Uniqlo, Jaeger, Margaret Howell, Kin (John Lewis), Ted Baker, Arket. Hobbs is generally good quality but I can't stand the styles (but you might). As another poster says, Marks and Spencers is pretty solidly all-round good.

Whitney168 · 18/09/2022 23:29

I’m a recent convert to Baukjen - not the biggest choice of stuff or the most exciting, but I am amazed at how much better quality their fabrics feel than most, and anything I’ve bought so far has washed beautifully.

IlonaRN · 19/09/2022 21:26

Kettlewell Colours have some decent stuff - brilliant colours and washes really well.
