I'm doing a fair amount of traveling over the next 12 months so want to invest in some good travel clothes. Something that I can easily wear, comfy, won't wrinkle and I can layer up for warmer and colder times (I'm almost always cold on a plane! But I also want to look nice.

I'm 'spring' if that makes a difference. I'm size 14-16 but losing weight rapidly.

Thanks

Black cashmere poncho is the best thing I've ever bought and constant companion on long haul. Light and packs down tiny but warm and snuggly and ideal for any destination too

I usually wear some nice black skinny stretch trousers (leggings not leggings) with a gold ankle zip for a bit of glam. Then an oversized, light-weight, long sleeve top in white and the cashmere poncho over the top with a feature (leopard) scarf. Usually a white vest underneath so I can whip off the top and just wear the vest with the scarf or poncho or just wear alone if I'm baking (planes are often set to 24c overnight!) or I'm arriving to a hot country.

I have some Chanel flats that are ideal to slip on and off underneath the seat when I need to. Also a decent size tote bag for all the bits.

Ooh yes, a cashmere poncho or shawl is a great call.

I use a backpack as I'm a total klutz with a tote! And yeah easy to slip off shoes. Im looking for some comfortable trousers, but don't want joggers or leggings! But maybe some stretch pants? I like the look of the saint and Sophia ones but have heard bad things about them.

I usually wear trousers from Asquith, think they're called dreamer pants, super soft and comfortable. Tend to be hot in the airport and cold on the plane so will have a lightweight merino jumper is a nice shade and a shawl in my bag. Classic tshirt with some jewellery and either sandals or flats

I bought some Athleta (part of the GAP group) Brooklyn ankle length trousers after seeing them recommended for travel. They are available on Zalando, or of course if you are travelling to the US you could buy them there.

They fit the bill for me, non-creasing, slightly loose and look tidy enough that I don’t feel as though I am flying in my pyjamas.

Thanks. Yes, there's a fine line between travel comfort and pyjamas 😆

I think you guys are right. Merino or cashmere for my top half, a classic basic tee and comfortable trousers.

I am going to the states so maybe I'll shop when there!

Quite right OP. So easy but looks classy. Also it's the basics for a classic capsule wardrobe, easy to dress up when you get there for work with a jacket, or big jewellery and heels for evening.

greenhousegal · 16/09/2022 12:54

I am obviously a very BAAAAD traveller. I just wear pull on trousers, slip on cushioned trainers, nice long sleeve t shirt and light gilet + scarf/shawl if cold. All non crease and comfortable. And inexpensive too. Cheaper the better.

I'm cheap as chips but soooo comfortable. Have it down to a fine art now and it suits me. The horror!

BangingOn · 16/09/2022 20:33

I have several pairs of Saint + Sofia trousers, all bought during the first lockdown and worn regularly but still looking great. I find Hush jersey comfortable for travelling in too.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 16/09/2022 20:39

I went to corfu recently and got some printed trousers from next. Joggers strictly speaking but looked nicer and a long sleeve t.

Mercurial123 · 17/09/2022 12:19

Yoga trousers from Bamboo clothing, fitted t shirt, cashmere jumper, Birkenstocks and an old pashmina.

CardiCorgi · 17/09/2022 13:42

@greenhousegal yours doesn’t sound that different from anyone else’s (my trousers were not that expensive, there always seems to be a sale on in the US).

The last flight I took one chap really did change into pyjamas and then went and put his shirt back on before landing. Maybe he had to go straight to a meeting and didn’t want to look crumpled.

Pigeon31 · 17/09/2022 13:45

I tend to wear whatever was too bulky to fit in the luggage (ie. Boots, blazer etc) but your way is probably better.

Alicay · 17/09/2022 13:56

Hairy, do you have any recommendations for glam gold zipped leggings/trousers pls? We

Sling · 17/09/2022 14:01

I wear these https://www.lululemon.co.uk/en-gb/p/dance-studio-mid-rise-jogger/prod9080134.html?dwvarprod90801344_color=47273 as comfortable as joggers but they don't go baggy at the knees. I've got full length ones for most trips but then a cropped pair if I'm just going from warm to hot climate. I size up as I like them baggy but they look fine either way.

Layers on top and a big poncho that doubles as a blanket. I also have very lightweight cotton scarfs again for trips from warm to hot - same idea but more useful once you're there and not bulky

I'd love to. Mine are Ted Baker but bought about 5 years ago and I haven't found anything similar since!

ILoveMyBedTooMuch · 17/09/2022 20:58

I'm waiting on the crisp white shirt and specific type of handbag to "wear".
