Big Bum, big thighs and small waist but no clothes

I'm sure I can't be the only person struggling with my African pair shape to fit into respectable clothes.

I'm in leggings - Not classy
Bodycon dresses - too sexy for work and draws massive attention to my noticeable behind.
Dresses - a line etc but others always seem either to casual or sexy again.

I work from home ..and I'd love to go work in an office but everyone I shop online or in stores ...nothing fits.

My clothing style is dreadful only because of lack of choices.

I have a nice stretchy pair of jeans given to me ..apparently from a boutique in London but I'm down on the south coast there are no random places to buy these one offs I know of.

Help.

I'm now Now I'm 14/16 ish..more 16.
Age 50 and the stretchy clothes seem to be designed for evening ..clubbing...too sexy or for retired people ....way too boring.

Where do +50 buy classy clothes that are stretchy to cover shapes.

I have a similar shape to you @WGO and swear by getting things tailored. Buy the right size for your bum then nip the waist in. Try the pretty dress company, bombshell hq and hobbs

I have that shape and have an extensive range of knee length wrap dresses for the office in different colours and patterns. I keep going back to Boden even though it's naff because they consistently make the same designs with new seasonal patterns. Black opaque tights in winter.

For jeans, next boot cut style in stretchy denim suit me, not the most fashionable I bet but I'd look ridiculous in skinny/mum jeans. Good luck!

My friend has a similar shape and she swears by ASOS Hourglass.

You do have to really look through to find relevant/appropriate stuff, but all of her trousers and skirts are from there.

M&S is a good start, they often cut for pear shapes and are more modest (the Autograph and modern lines, not the granny 'classics') John Lewis website has lots of options too (you just want to filter both as they all have loads on there)

Some of the lines on La Redoute are useful too

Tea dresses are modest and don't add bulk around waist and bum - like this www.marksandspencer.com/floral-v-neck-button-through-midi-tea-dress/p/clp22549083?extid=ps_ps-bpla_ggl_ww_ch__-UK-_-_testssc&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIxt7fmq-M-gIVhu7tCh0p6gxBEAQYAiABEgJNzvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

Dresses are good and a comfortable jersey fitted blazer is great for between weather and good at de-sexying a large bum for work ;-)

a line midi skirts with a lightweight jumper also can look quite neat and professional - just keep the jumpers short and thin enough to show off the waist a little

I find M&S to be quite the opposite, cut for apple shapes, with waists at least a size bigger than the hips.

Thank you all for some fantastic advice. You've given me some good tips to look into.

John Lewis has a free personal shopper/stylist (not sure if they still do it). You go in and they help find clothes for your body shape. Do you know that in the entire store the stylist was not able to find one single skirt, trousers, suit to fit my shape. She was so apologetic and said normally she has the opposite problem and finds too many outfits and leaves you to narrow down the choices. I walked away with not a SINGLE item and v frustrated

I am a pear shape and have recently bought quite a few jumpsuits and shirt dresses from African fabric and clothes sellers in the UK
Cumo London
M.A.D.Kollection

If you give them your measurements they'll make stuff to fit.

Fluffygreenslippers · 12/09/2022 11:14

I recommend shirt dresses. I buy them a size up to fit my big bum/hips but most of them come with a tie to the waist so you can cinch them in. If not I add a belt.
I’ve found nice ones from h&m, New Look & my local market if you have a big one near one.
