Skin and Me and keeping the sun damage at bay after you've stopped using it

Now the weather's turning I've just used someone here's code, and signed up to Skin and Me for a bargainous price. Thanks to whoever that was.
Mostly as I have terrible sun damage (wear the sunscreen, kids!).
I've used Dermatica before, really successfully, but when I stopped using it and fell into my old sloppy ways my pigmentation came back and I'm very much back at square one again.
I'm determined to try harder this time, but was hoping to hear from people who'd used a course of Tret through one of the online companies and managed to keep their glowy skin after they'd stopped using it.
Please tell me it's possible and how!
Many thanks

I've attached my code, which gets me a tenner, a tenner for a charity and you a discount too.

For any long term benefit you'd need to maintain usage to some degree even if this wasn't daily. Skin cell turnover happens over months rather than days and retinol accelerates this better than most other things.

Using a good SPF 50 daily and stringently is a given if you have pigmentation issues and encouraging new cell turnover with chemical exfoliation (whatever type you choose for your skin type and needs) would help.

Ultimately I find skin & me has worked really well for me, I would rather just absorb the monthly cost than waste money on other products with potentially less clinical ingredients (if not researched properly). My skin is sensitive and I hate wasting money on things that then don't suit it or trying to squeeze in loads of products as a routine and not knowing what, if anything works, when the skin&me vial does everything I currently neex (except moisturising) in one.

I'm not going to add my code. Threads about skin&me always seem to end up being a litany of referral codes which you don't need to get a discounted trial anyway- albeit nice to send someone £10 rather than not! Definitely recommend them to those thinking of trying them though.

If you stop, it all comes back I'm afraid

I'm using skin and me and thinking of leaving. It hasn't made much difference to be honest and the daily dosage seemingly doesn't have a v long sell by date. That said I find it hard to believe something goes off or doesn't work after only 1 month
But who knows. Personally I haven't seen much difference at all but perhaps others have.

Not sure why you’d stop unless for financial reasons but as pp says you can end up spending just as much on unproven products. I note Boots has started doing a menopausal skin serum which is a total marketing ploy.

I guess I'd never thought of it as a long term project, this is obviously where I went wrong last time, my skin started looking great and so I stopped using it assuming it would stay great.
It did not.
Thanks for the advice

I don't use Skin and me but have had melasma on my nose. This got rid of it. I continue to use it and it hasn't come back.

I've heard of people using theirs for 6-8 weeks with no problems. I think you can stagger delivery for longer than a month. To be honest, it's probably a ploy by the companies to get you to buy it more regularly.

If you have only been using it for a while, the results take a long time to show (think 6 - 9 months) and to be honest, people have unrealistic expectations of what tretinoin can do. It's not a miracle cream, it won't make you look 21 if you're 50. But it does brighten the skin and reduces fine lines and generally make skin appear fresher and a bit more youthful. Which is more than any over the counter stuff does really.

I don't live in the UK so can't sign up to Skin and Me or Dermatica (it would be easier to be honest, plus you can get other ingredients added), but I do order my tretinoin from Farmacia Tristaina in Andorra. It costs about €20 per tube, which lasts me 3 - 4 months using it about 5 nights a week. And the postage is expensive so I try and buy a few tubes at a time.

I justify the spend because I don't really use any other fancy skincare, some cheap vitamin c serum, some cheap The Ordinary serums, but generally I think expensive skincare is a con - you are paying for the fancy packaging. Tretinoin has clinical research to show that it does make a difference, but it's a long term thing.

I will continue to use it, as I see it as maintenance of my skin, an investment in my future face and prevention of future sun damage (along with sunscreen).

How many times a day do you use this

faretheewell · 12/09/2022 12:39

@londonlass71, just once a day.🙂
