How to move away from leggings?

Zana2222 · 10/09/2022 14:06

I have been wearing black leggings for the past two years since the birth of my third child. I love how comfortable they are and don’t like wearing tight jeans after three c sections. However I am now tired of wearing the same thing daily and feel quite frumpy so would like some advice on other types of comfortable trousers and where to buy them? I am not a fan of three quarter length trousers

I wear yoga pants , mainly from Peacocks. Very comfortable but versatle.

LunaCrystal · 10/09/2022 15:54

Hi! I’m the same, youngest is 10 months so watching this with interest. I just find jeans so uncomfortable 😣

FredrikaPeri · 10/09/2022 15:55

snag tights?
Mum jeans?

EarthSight · 10/09/2022 16:53

Start with something like straight legged cotton trousers or chinos. Consider going through the sales section for casual, long sleeved dresses that would be good for autumn.

SingingGoldfinch · 10/09/2022 16:56

How about cargo pants? Loads of options, but something like this https://www.marksandspencer.com/tencel-rich-cargo-camo-tapered-trousers/p/clp60528314?extid=psps-bplaagglwwwch--UK---baussc&gbraid=0AAAAAD7g6bTg86mQzombqxZZQQByDLqx4&gbraid=0AAAAAD7g6bTg86mQzombqxZZQByDLqx4&gclid=Cj0KCQjw66CYBhDjARIsABnuSzq87Ijd5GKA9vjjHEUv8IwkIVoyenKvWIdPO4-DfZ3r6W2A4h1WQaAt9LEALww_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds

I live in jeans but if I want a comfier option I always pull a pair of these on. (Sorry for massive hyperlink!)

Another vote for M&S, they have lots of different styles of trousers. Go in store and try a few on

LimeCheesecake · 10/09/2022 17:04

Firstly, do you want to keep the tight bottom half, loose fitting top half style ? Because most trousers are getting wider legged, so buying new bottoms will probably mean new tops too.

When you say jeans aren’t comfortable, you mean tight, skinny jeans - so would wide legged or mom jeans styles work for you, or it is anything with a non-elasticated waist band, which is going to limit your options.

RosesandMoonshine · 10/09/2022 19:30

Ooh there are many options now, which is great!

Think of the Gary yoga pants from sweaty betty, this style is a decent, comfy option, although I prefer them in summer.
I also like combats, cargo's, cuffed or wide leg, preferably in thick cotton with a mid rise.
There are wider, slouchy jeans, which you could wear casually or with neat, smarter tops/jumpers.
Flared leggings, similar to yoga pants but often thicker.
Straight, slim or wider jeans.
All of these, apart from the Gary's can be worn casually or more formally, depending what you pair them with.

Go forth and have fun, it's a really good time to collect some new things before the market shifts and we all get stuck with one design for 20 years again :(

Thanks for the ideas so far. M&S is definitely on my list for trying on trousers. I have short legs so I find wide legged trousers so look silly on me. Think chinos and cargos would be good. The problem with my jeans is that I still have a few kilos weight to lose so I find them too tight / uncomfortable and I am pulling up the waist. I think trying on new jeans with a higher waist and looser fit would really help too. I never spend time shopping for myself outside of some online basics but I think going into the actual shops trying things on will really help

I got some comfort mom jeans in Tesco recently which are much more comfortable than any other normal mom jeans I have. They have a stretchy waistband and are definitely easier to wear all day. Also got some comfort fit chinos from Tesco which are super soft and comfy

cherrypiepie · 10/09/2022 20:47

Just tried these in in Matalan and they are really comfy and look much better than on the website! They run quite large.

Have a look at lagenlook magic pants.

You can get them off eBay in loads of colours. They look crap but they're actually fab. I bought a few pairs to find a middle ground of jogging and jeans. Cheap as chips too

PumpkinDart · 10/09/2022 22:56

Best thing I did was size up a size and wear a belt with Mom Jeans fit was better with my saggy c section stomach (not saying yours looks like mine but I hate mine 🤣).

Sandcastlesinthesky · 10/09/2022 22:58

I’ve not worn my leggings for months now since getting mom jeans. I like the comfort stretch ones from next and the Carrie ones from river island

housemadd · 11/09/2022 08:30

Also consider skirts! Comfier than non-elastic trousers, more polished than leggings.

Zana2222 · 11/09/2022 21:14

I tried a few shops today and was very impressed with the very wide range of trousers at M&S. Not all were flattering on me but it was so handy to choose short or regular length. I chose the soft denim look joggers, Sienna high rise straight jeans, and two pairs of ‘Slim’ cargo type trousers that are cuffed at the bottom. It’s great to have a few options outside of leggings at last.

Another option is keeping the leggings but dressing them up.

Wear a dress or long shirt over the top. Maybe a belt, too.

like Bernadette from The Big Bang Theory. I really like her style.

Although I think she’s wearing stockings under her dress, but that’s ok - leggings would work, too. 😊

Lexilexci · 29/09/2022 00:45

ive had 3 c sections also and detest the pouch it has left me but I have found high waisted stretchy skinny jeans in black (I get mine from primark) great at hiding my uncomfortable bits. And I tend to wear longer tops so I can choose whether to tuck it into the jeans and have enough overhanging to hide my pouch or just wear it over the top of my thighs.

i also find a-line/skater dresses very flattering and comfortable (occasionally with a well placed wide waist belt) so you could dress up the leggings.

i am sure you will look wonderful whether you decide to try something new or not.

StarlightLady · 29/09/2022 08:38

OP, must it be trousers? As l’ve said elsewhere on S&B, dresses work for me. I love my dresses.

And no co-ordination thoughts required when you get dressed.
