Can anyone share pictures of what mum boots are? 😬

I hate the term 'mum' to define clothing. What it really means is 'middle aged'. Not every mum is middle aged and not every middle aged woman is a mum.

I've definitely reached the age of preferring practicality and comfort over being fashionable.

I agree with @TheOGCCL but these ones are definitely not 'mum boots'!

Also, just wear what you want and can walk in. Life is too short to worry that the things you like are somehow wrong

That’s not my understanding of the “mum” in “mum boots”. I’d agree that the styles linked to above fit the definition, but to me they are mum boots because women my mum’s age (70s) carried on wearing them with slightly too loose bootcut jeans long after the fashion had passed. Often with fleeces and very practical anoraks that were never fashionable. My MiL is still a fan of this look now.
Obviously this doesn’t stop it from being an offensive way to use the word.

The heels are too high! I'd wear shorter or flat heels, which may make it even more mum like 😂

None of the boots posted, with the possible exception of the Gabor ones, are objectively ‘mum boots’. What turns them into mum boots is wearing them with too-short stretch bootcut jeans and a ratty navy blue fleece.

I asked my 15yo daughter what mum boots are. She has no idea, but says mine are fine and not old fashioned/ mumsy. Her only suggestion as to more fashionable alternatives was “trainers”.
