Frizzy hair

My hair looks like this first image but sometimes with a bit more of a wave. Some days I may have a ringlet, other days it's just straight frizz. I can't wear it down if air dried but want to. I don't want to do curly girl. I've tried but it doesn't work well. I want a simple product I can use and for it to work magic.

I use Olaplex shampoo and conditioner. Tried all the general frizz ease etc.

Don't straighten, but do use dryer sometimes and coloured with a few highlights.

Any ideas?

A Brazilian blow dry would be your best bet but you won't have nice hair without a bit of effort.

LuciferRising · 10/09/2022 08:18

But does that make your hair straight? I don't want it completely straight. My hair use to be lovely until late teens and it just completely changed. It's very fine but lots of it.

You have what my hair dryer affectionately calls 'Hard work hair'.

You do not have hair that can be air dryed. You either need to put some gel on it and scrunch it up with a diffuser to curl it more or straighten it.

My hair is similar but curlier. If I can't be arsed styling it, I need to put it up in braids to let it dry because it will not look nice if left to air dry. Even with a Brazilian blow dry, I still need to style my hair each morning.

I'm exactly the same and also with curly girl, tried it a few times and I just don't like all the products in my hair. I'll follow along as I'm also keen for some hair help.

Slushycuppa · 10/09/2022 08:22

BTW, you don't need to buy into all of the curly girl products. I only wash my hair with shampoo, use a conditioner and then use gel if I am curling it. If I'm straightening it, the only product I use is a heat protector spray.

Boots pink curl cream is what I use (though my hair is 2C/3A). It's a miracle in a tub. I also tried Curly Girl and my hair hated it. I wash with Lush's sea salt shampoo bar and conditioner :)

Iamblossom · 10/09/2022 08:25

Don't use shampoo, and leave in your conditioner.

Iamblossom · 10/09/2022 08:25

Agree, it's amazing

TheBirdintheCave · 10/09/2022 08:28

Oh and this is what it looks like with Boots pink :) Excuse my weird expression 🤦🏻‍♀️

I have wavy hair and found the curly girl products too heavy.
I bought the merwave kit and found that better although don't use all the steps now.
I use PB/ silicone free shampoo conditioner, then I comb out knots and put my parting in . I put a tiny bit of fushi hair oil through my ends and under the back of my hair.I then scrunch in merwave mousse ( step4) and their gel ( step5). Then I plop in a microfibre hair wrap for 29 mins then air dry. Sounds a lot but I only wash my hair twice a week.

MrsElijahMikaelson1 · 10/09/2022 08:42

Use a wet brush in the shower whilst your conditioner is in. Do not brush again! Put hair in a hair wrap to dry-do not rub dry in a towel. Few pumps of Moroccan Oil on hands-stroke through hair. Leave it alone!

LuciferRising · 10/09/2022 09:06

I'm probably a 1c or 2a. Tried the mermaid stuff. I'll try not touching or combing it. I constantly touch my hair trying to smooth it and am generally a fidget to be honest so constantly pulling and winding it.

Frizz will be caused by too much brushing and not enough moisture. Use sulphate free shampoo and conditioner. Rub some hair oil / aussie reconstructor miracle oil through it and then some curl cream - Kms curl up is good- and then brush and then don’t brush it again. Scrunch if you want waves / curls. Let it dry naturally or use a diffuser. That’s what I do everyday.

LuciferRising · 10/09/2022 09:28

Which KMS product? There are a few.

This is exactly my hair. I want it straighter or curlier. I use Garnier Banana Hair Food and it takes the frizz out. Will give Boots a try. @TheBirdintheCave love your hair.

@ALittleBitAhAh @Tabbouleh I love it too when it behaves 😂

foxofthefells · 10/09/2022 13:47

what i never understand about advice with this kind of hair (I have it too!) is why everyone automatically thinks we want huge spiral ringlets. My hair is not naturally spirally, nor very curly, and forcing it into shirley temple curls is hard, hard work, it is NOT going with 'nature'.

Best i have found is a good shampoo, leave in conditioner or serum and just smooth it all out with a heated brush (not a dryer brush). I don't use irons or blow dry, so it's either smooth it out or plait it and leave wavy.

So no, us porous frizzies dont always want huge curls, it's a strange presumption that costs more time and money than any other method. And weirdly enough, many of us don't suit it.

foxofthefells · 10/09/2022 13:49

Oh and by 'smoothing out' with a heated brush I usually just flop a section of hair over it and gently twist so I get a good, shiny bounce that isn't straight or flat.

Tabbouleh · 10/09/2022 13:58

Any reccos for a heated brush? My hair used to be 3 b curly but it has gone straighter in menopause. I think it might be easier to smooth rather than curly.

Cornishbelle · 10/09/2022 14:04

Beautiful hair @TheBirdintheCave

LuciferRising · 10/09/2022 16:18

I use a dryer brush when 90 % dry but it just makes it straight and boring.
