Tell me your best curly girl tips/ products

So I have super thick hair. Some days it will be curly and pretty and other days just frizzy and I can’t do anything with it.

I have stopped trying to fight my natural hair with my GHDs and am embracing my curly hair. So far I never brush my hair when it’s dry, and scrunch the curls with a micro fibre towel when wet. I also use silk hair ties when I wear my hair in a pony tail

I tried a few co wash products instead of shampoo but this left my scalp itchy and not feeling clean. I’m using fudge shampoo and conditioner as it’s sulphate free. I also have a silk sleeping cap which is amazing but sometimes this feels uncomfortable to wear and my partner thinks I look like a grandma in it. So probably not the sexiest thing to wear to bed haha. I have satin pillow cases but this doesn’t seem as effective as the grandma hat on my curls 😂

Tell me your curly girl routines, tips and miracle products?

Also let me know if anyone has any good suggestions for purple shampoo that won’t dry out my curly hair and cause frizz?

What’s worked for me ( thick curly / wavy hair which got dryer and dryer from my 30s onwards) is no silicones ever. Giving up shampoo and washing with sulphate and silicone free conditioner. Takes a bit of getting used to but it works. I use Faith in Nature, I get it in Oxfam or Sainsburys. Occasionally I’ll do a vinegar rinse. That’s it, and it’s turned my hair round from Brillo pad to healthy and shiny. I also avoid using terry towels to dry my hair, i condition it after washing and stick a beanie on, and after final rinsing I wrap my hair in an oversize cotton towel.

I have very curly hair, but mine might be a bit finer than yours.

I really like Aveda hair products. I use the Sap Moss shampoo/conditioner, or the cherry almond ones. I also like their Be Curly range.

After washing my hair, I usually use some sort of curl cream followed by a gel or mousse for some hold. I then air dry or blow dry with a diffuser.

If you look for products where the first ingredient is water, it makes it easier to ‘refresh’ your hair as you can just wet it and reuse your products, without needing to do a full wash again.

If you’re on Instagram, Nuala Morey is worth a follow.

I second Aveda. I use the sap moss shampoo and conditioner. I have fine, thick hair which is wavy with some curl at the ends. It will curl but I am generally too lazy to faff with it and also prefer the waves. It is also coloured and was dry and frizzy. The sap moss has defined and encouraged the natural wave and reduced the frizz. It didn't produce instant results (I guess it took a while for the silicone etc already in there to be fully removed) but it didn't take long for it to look loads better. As an aside, the shampoo has quite an earthy smell which I really like, but looking at the reviews on the Aveda website I don't know if it is to everyone's taste!

Only Curls has been the best stuff for my hair.

Just been looking up all these products.

I like that faith in nature is eco friendly, just seen that you can send the plastic empty bottles back too so they can reuse them. I always feel guilty about plastic bottle use so that’s definitely a bonus.

Also I do really need to use some sort of product I think to moisturise the curls so a curl cream sounds good. Like the look of the only curls one.

Im not sure about the Aveda one, just looked it up and it’s described as weightless hydration. I used a shampoo before similar, I think it was supposed to be for fine hair (borrowed mums shampoo) .But I literally have enough hair for two people, and I ended up looking like a poodle, think I need the extra weight and moisture in my products 😂

Ecoslay is the best I've ever used.

Ignore the shampoo, everything else is awesome.

I use the Jasmine leave in conditioner. The Banana Cream deep conditioner is so incredibly hydrating I had no idea my hair could be so soft. And the gel has the best hold.
