Anyone not finding anything appealing this season?

Has anyone else found they just don't like anything from the new season collections?

I'm usually in the market for a new blouse, unnecessary jumper or dress up / down dress, but this season....not much has caught my eye.

Dresses seem stuck in floral milkmaid style which I have several of already and look awful with opaque tights in winter, jumpers all seem to be oversize or too frilly and all synthetic, boots are same as last season etc etc.

Apart from a lovely shirt dress and a pair of wide legged jeans I've come up empty. Nothing appealing in all my usual places.

Is it just me?

A bit lacklustre so far.

Shapeless floral summer midi dresses replaced with shapeless floral winter midi dresses.

Not sure where all the nice boots are (maybe too early?).

Me! However I think I’m in some kind of style
crisis. Everything in my wardrobe is boring. I wear the same stuff to work as I do at home/going out and it’s all really ‘safe’ and just dull. I don’t like going out shopping and tend to do all my shopping online. The last few times I’ve looked I’ve not found a single thing that I would wear!

Nolosomi · 06/09/2022 19:37

There’s been nothing interesting for a few years in my opinion. Brands are cutting costs and producing boring clothes and shoes/boots with cheap, synthetic fabrics. It seems only high end designers/brands make anything decent and few can afford it. In a few years time we’ll be drab, unstylish, shapeless and poor to boot! I’m sick of it.
I pretty much but everything secondhand, it’s the only way I get get anything remotely nice, and that’s by buying things from years back when the quality was better.

TheOGCCL · 06/09/2022 22:06

I agree a lot of the mid range stuff is a bit underwhelming and you have to spend a lot to get something of quality. Also a lot is quite samey: mom jeans, slouchy jumpers, midi dresses.

If you take say Next (not that I do really), the quality has seriously declined. I tried a shirt on and it was £32. Two years ago it would have been £22. I’d actually rather have had a better quality item for £42. £32 seemed too much for it so not sure who they are pleasing.

Omg, the Boden catalogue arrived today. What a load of rubbish.

Crikeyalmighty · 06/09/2022 22:12

I bought a fair bet when we were living in Denmark - especially padded coats and boots- cheaper and better quality. Lots of it made in Germany, my Necker lace up boots with lovely thick soles are much admired!!! And were £88 .

Much easier there I felt to get plain but relatively flattering styles. There seems an awful lot here of what I call Carrie Johnson style around , which looks shit unless you are 5ft 8 plus and a size 10 or less

justforthisnow · 06/09/2022 22:13

Agree with all this. Who is buying all the floral midis in Winter and how are they wearing them?
I've resorted to second hand sites and have found a brand new pair, in box, of velvet LK Bennett heels, leather, for equivalent of £20. Think thats how I may shop for the rest of the year.

KILM · 06/09/2022 22:20

Agree, my issue is that everything is bloody viscose and that means static cling constantly!! Every nice dress or top i see i have to put back, i buy stuff thinking maybe j can put up with the static, i cover it with hairspray etc the usual tricks but by a couple of hours... static! Is anyone else having this issue? Even the lovely silky blouses, most of them seem to be made out of this cheap clingy stuff.
Also everything is bloody beige. And the mid brands are taking the piss, &Other Stories make some lovely clothes but honestly i've found better made stuff in regular H&M that doesnt cost 3x the price... but its mostly the clingy fabric.
Oh and i have boobs and they are desperately out of fashion so your choices are frumpy or porno... been the case for a long time that one.

Houseplantmad · 06/09/2022 22:35

I agree but have discovered Vinted and now have a much more interesting wardrobe consisting of better quality clothing than I could buy now at a fraction of the cost. I’ve also become more experimental as it’s a low risk purchase.

LetsGoDoDoDo · 07/09/2022 10:42

I agree, its thoroughly depressing! And u used to love shopping! I now stick to eBay, I didn't really get on with Vinted but might give it another try.

I've just purchased a Whistles coat from eBay, practically new for £60. I have my eye on a few Reiss skirts and some Italian boots. It makes sense to buy second hand for various, obvious reasons. I do worry about the state of the high street though.

Crikeyalmighty · 07/09/2022 11:16

My H feels the same about the mens clothes too . In Denmark tons of plain crew neck black 'fake cashmere' type tops and classic good quality hoodies and great coats. Even H&M was way better and far more ordered. He says here it's all either 'gangsta' style cheap and nasty or very dull man at Burton type nasty coloured polo shirts with huge logos

He's resorted to buying far far less but getting odd bits from All Saints which have much nicer mens stuff- but pricey

@ProseccoStorm
If you look at the Sunday Times Style magazine there isn’t a dress there in their style trends. They’ve not chosen one. So that’s the way to go- ignore dresses.

What they suggest are blazers and trousers. Tweed slouchy blazers teamed with blouses. Oversized coats. A banana bag. Lace for evening instead of bare flesh. Brights are still fashionable, especially trouser suits. Eye catching denim matched with all of the above. Strongly patterned sweaters. Match with skirts. Tartan is good as is houndstooth. Add double wrap belts. Heels or flats: doesn’t matter. Clashing pattern is good if you can pull it off. If not stick to pattern and plain.

Forget dresses except for evening!
