Church’s way too expensive. Russell and Bromley not much choice!

Jones Bootmaker?

TollgateDebs · 06/09/2022 09:00

Charles Clinkard www.charlesclinkard.co.uk/

What do you class as 'expensive'? It is a very subjective word!

Rina66 · 06/09/2022 09:14

Clarks? Lots of their shoes are really quite good modern twists on classic designs. What sort of shoe are you looking for?

SmellsLikeMiddleAgeSpirit · 06/09/2022 11:14

M&S often have a good version of current and classsic styles, and not too expensive.

MuddlerInLaw · 06/09/2022 12:16

Think you need to define both ‘classic’ and ‘not expensive’. (I’ll ignore ‘frumpy’.)

Theredjellybean · 06/09/2022 12:20

I used to buy absolute classic court shoes in two different heel heights, in black, navy, nude from m and s
Not expensive, covered all outfits, perfect for work etc...
They have stopped making them... Ffs... Because no one wearing "office wear" anymore.
If you find the answer op... Please let me know

Stopsnowing · 07/09/2022 20:40

Yes I couldn’t find what I was looking for in m and s. They didn’t even have navy tights because they were waiting for demand.

I think I would consider paying up to 150 but would prefer 100.
I could happily live in Hotter shoes but need something less frumpy for a new role at work

Charles & Keith have a good range

I’m a Russell and Bromley fan. But, if not, I wore a lot of Hobbs in my days of working in an office. And some LK Bennett. M and S never seem to suit my feet. Luckily I’ve passed on to the trainer phase now … comfortable and trendy.

Afterfire · 07/09/2022 20:57

Asos have a huge mixture of shoes from £5 to £200 odd. They’ve got some very nice leather loafer type ones on there at the moment.

SarahWoodruff · 08/09/2022 00:49

Hobbs outlet (on the website) is often good for work shoes.

minticecreamisjustok · 08/09/2022 07:52

I like moda in pelle for smart work shoes, they often have a sale on too.

HotSauceCommittee · 08/09/2022 08:16

Dune is nice.

This attitude of M&S annoys me, I’m always looking in there for navy tights! They don’t have any so people go elsewhere, thus M&S think there’s no demand.

carefullycourageous · 08/09/2022 08:48

I agree totally about M&S - I go and look in there first for all sorts of basics and end up spending elsewhere.

I wish they would arrange their stores with a 'basics' section - and stock it properly - and a 'fashion' section because I almost always just want simple things but get disheartened by the chaos.

SmellsLikeMiddleAgeSpirit · 08/09/2022 09:07

Yes indeed, re: Marks and demand for basics like navy tights.

"Why don't you sell x?"
"Because nobody buys them"

But that's because you don't bloody stock them, M&S!

Me too. I used to buy quite a lot of simple things there: linen trousers, good colours of jumpers and cord trousers, chelsea boots. Now it's all beige/navy/black or colours that seem to have been chosen by somebody who is colourblind in artificial light (I speak with authority here, DH is colourblind and has no taste).
I like T-shirts with long sleeves in nice colours - none in M&S. DH likes coloured T-shirts too, M&S are awful.

Re: work shoes, if yips are after flat, black shoes - brogues or loafers - have a look at StartRite teen girls school shoes.
