Dog walking style help please

Women of the style and beauty board, I need you. I’m tired of looking like a mismatched frump when I take my dog for a walk in the mud months (October to March where I live). In the summer I wear ordinary day clothes and walking sandals which I change in the car to town shoes when we’re out of the woods. But in the mid months I’m wearing a bad melange of things that are warm but ugly, mismatched and rescued from the charity shop bag. Please save me from this. I’m a size 12, hourglass shape, love jewel colours.

Oh good! I've got it in a red/orange version.

Keep it simple. Stay dry, and choose a favourite colour plus a very visible accent colour, so if anything happens and you need rescueing from a remote location, you are easily visible.

I wear Chelsea style wellies, they are stylish but also easy to change out of, like these ones by Tretorn: www.toa.st/collections/womens-boots/products/tretorn-terrang-boots-black

I also wear shower proof climbing trousers from Patagonia (like comfortable leggings with many pockets) and a long coat that I bought in Sweden, looks a bit like this: stutterheim.com/uk/product/mosebacke-long-black/

IMO an extra long waterproof coat and wellies make all the difference, there are lots of stylish options. This year I want to get a rainproof hat as others have said (I hate hoods!).

Thank you @missmoon really helpful links. I’ve already ordered two waterproof hats and am feeling better about walking in the rain after all the fab suggestions on here. I took my charity shop bag to the charity shop today too, no more fishing in there.

this is a couple of years old but still relevant. Great tips on what to wear as the blogger had just got a puppy! I don't really walk the dogs now but I used to have decent walking boots rather than wellies as they have bad grip, a waterproof coat for actual rain, a duvet coat for cold and a hat and gloves. In summer trainers because we live in a rural area so always need decent foot coverage. And as for trousers, jeans or trousers just normal stuff

Love this blog post, thank you @Sooverthemill

I totally understand the need to drive to walk your dog (once upon a time town-dweller and cocker spaniel owner, they need to flush in fields and woods-pavement walks are good for sniffs but not at all interesting enough for all walks) and I also understand the desire to look nice; after all, it's an activity you'll be doing at least once a day.

I'd suggest picking a colour scheme or two, using complementary colours that all work together. A mini-capsule wardrobe for dog walking if you like. Dubarry boots are expensive but I've found mine to be brilliant. They look serviceable and stylish even in mud and they protect the lower part of your trousers. A longish mac for wet days, quilted coat for cooler days that reaches your knees will also protect much of the upper part of your trousers and the waterproof trousers will be a bonus on the wettest, muddiest of days. Add some lovely woolies-hat, gloves, scarf-and you are set!

My WCS has, without fail, to roll in mud and puddles during every walk of the mud months. You have my sympathy!

isle Jacobsen raincoat
Acai jeans or trousers
Muck boots or Blundstones

Jets121 · 10/09/2022 08:37

Someone mention Acai outdoors trousers. They are currently on sale on Sport Pursuit for a good price. I didn’t get on with the skinny ones, but found the “casual stroll pants” brilliant, and slim enough to tuck into boots. Practical, dry easily & look nice enough for day to day life

@IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads Acai currently on sale on SportPursuit

I get you, I like to look stylish when walking my dogs, we often end up in the pub after for lunch. Also, why not look stylish if it makes you feel good!

So, my boots are Le Chameau Vierzonord in green. They are a structured wellington boot, I suppose. They are pricey, but, will last for years and are much warmer and comfier than Hunters. I can walk for miles in v cold weather while wearing them, something I could never do in lesser wellies. Due to their structure, they look really good, too. V flattering. I wear them with skinnies. Coat is a fitted Barbour wax jacket. It has a removable thermal lining which means it works throughout the seasons. I run hot so tend to wear a fine knit cashmere sweater underneath. If it’s really really cold, I’ll wear a tweed flat cap, looks good and keeps the heat in.
