All you wise and stylish MNetters, please help me with my hair dilemma

I was at the hairdresser again today, and asked that the hairdresser cut a bit more off. I was there on Thursday and he said if I wanted it shorter I should come back.

I wanted it a good bit shorter at the back, cut diagonally (not as dramatically as Victoria Beckham but that general style)

He said that he did not want to cut it too short as it would not look good. I am such a wimp and let him persuade me.

Now I am unsure what to do. I will be in UK next week. Should I go to the hairdresser there? Should I just leave it?

Please could you have a look at the photos on my profile and advise me. I had the style I wanted last summer.

Can't see last summer shot too well but 3rd pic down is nice.

Hang on...

kindersurprise · 22/01/2008 20:23

I don't have a picture of the back of my head from last summer (funny that) but it was shorter than now.

I am a bit worried that it looks frumpy being all the same length

(I meant the first pic is too far away btw)

Is your hair quite fine? If so, I kinda know what the hairdresser means re Vic Beckham type cut at the back. I also have fine hair and that sort of style can look a tad flat.

Have you considered more of a 'spiky' fringe, sort of Dido-style?

I'll try and find a pic ...

Walnutshell · 22/01/2008 20:28

Dido - fringe wise

Or sort of this - could also browse this site?

Don't think it's frumpy one length.

Walnutshell · 22/01/2008 20:29

Came here from your link re playground frumps so have just seen your thread title - I'm not claiming to be stylish by answering your post!!! I'm sure someone far more stylish will be along soon... If not, I'll send 'em over!

southeastastra · 22/01/2008 20:33

it doesn't look that different, but i wonder why he didn't think you could go shorter at the back, he could have taken an inch or two more off. (if that's what you asked for)

ROSEgarden · 22/01/2008 20:36

i'd def have it cut shorter, it will grow so fast and look exactly like it is now, so two hair cuts for price of one!..tis nice BTW, but i would try shorter

kindersurprise · 22/01/2008 20:54

Hope you didn't think I was being norty about the pic. Just read back what I wrote and it sounds a bit cheeky. Sorry.

The first pic is lovely but my hair would never sit like that.

Am busy with the website that you linked to.

I like it shorter.

kindersurprise · 22/01/2008 21:12

I like it shorter too. But my hairdresser doesnt.

I cant keep coming over to UK to get my haircut though. The problem is, the style I want is really popular in UK but not so much here. So the hairdressers don't know how (or don't want) to cut it.

The last time I really liked the cut was when I went to a tiny salon in a salon in Newton Stewart.

God, I am going to have to go to a cutting edge salon in Düsseldorf or Cologne to get a modern cut.

Ha! Took me ages to work that out! Nope, didn't notice any naughtiness - bit oblivious so don't worry, carry on hunting for the perfect style and post your ideas though

WingsofanAngel · 22/01/2008 21:17

You can go shorter at the back but leave the sides longer as it will look good. You'll get a good shape.

If you get it cut in the UK then take pictures and take them back to you usual hairdresser then he can see how good it looks.

Walnutshell · 22/01/2008 21:17

I do like the shape of this first bob

Walnutshell · 22/01/2008 21:20

(Re-reading: we crossed posts earlier so my comment in brackets was not actually even in response to your funny comment!)

I'll stop going on now.

kindersurprise · 22/01/2008 21:46

Oh, and thanks for bumping my heartfelt plea, Walnut. You are a star!

You lot have convinced me, I will get it cut shorter when I go to Scotland. Bit of a pain as we are only going for the weekend.

And take photos for dim German hairdressers. (Already tried 3 different places since last summer).

Kerrymum
I had a fringe a couple of years ago, did not like it. It made my face look so round.

Like the idea of more layers.

How is your foot?
