The chub rub is real

Please help! I'm on holiday with my partner and we have been walking a lot in the heat. Despite wearing shorts I have the worst chubbrub. Tomorrow we need to walk more. How do I heal this overnight please, with things I might have in my case/hotel room? Will I be able to walk tomorrow? This is so sore!

Body glide. I have some in every handbag in case of emergency. Never leave home without it. www.wiggle.co.uk/bodyglide

gogohmm · 04/09/2022 16:27

Sudocreme is the best solution if not have you got cotton shorts (cycling kind) you can wear under dresses of shorts

gogohmm · 04/09/2022 16:30

For future reference I highly recommend modibodi's chafing shorts, added bonus is they prevent any period mishaps (always a concern wearing white/light clothes) and for us older ladies, bladder leakage

Fatballs · 04/09/2022 16:34

Duct tape?

BeaLola · 04/09/2022 16:39

For future summers/ holidays I cannot recommend applying roll on deodorant to inside of thighs enough - tip a previous year on Mumsnet . I just apply each am after my shower and I'm good to go all day . I tend to use the Aldi un fragranced roll on

Sympathies on the chafing - used to get it always and it's soooo painful

ToffeeNotCoffee · 04/09/2022 17:55

Talcum powder does help on the affected area but use unscented if you have it and reapply throughout the day.

I have memories from back in my own school days doing this very thing. Taking talcum powder to school and discretely dressing my chafed thighs at breaktimes. Dreading the walk home as I knew I would not be able to shake Johnsons Baby Powder on my thighs in public after dressing them in the toilet before I started the walk home.

My chafed thighs would heal up over night then the whole process would start again the next day.

To this day I don't like wearing shorts. My idea of shorts is those three quarter length, 'capri' trousers !

Stick or cream deodorant is a gane changer.

This, I never need to use anything else.

RJnomore1 · 04/09/2022 18:06

BODY GLIDE! That’s the stuff. That’s what you need

isitaline97 · 04/09/2022 18:12

Liquid talc! I feel your pain 😢

ToffeeNotCoffee · 04/09/2022 18:38

I use Lanacane anti chafe gel. Works a treat. First tube of it I got from Boots. I've ordered some more online as I'm going on holiday soon. I love the colder months when I wear tights to keep my chubby thighs under control.

I've only seen Body Glide for sale on the internet.

I've been to sports shops and hiking and outdoor shops and they have got either powdered chalk - cyclists use it to ward off chafing apparently. Or something by, 'Compeed' which seems to be an anti blister preparation for feet.

whoopdedo · 04/09/2022 18:41

Tomorrow morning stick some plasters on your thighs where the rub is happening. This helped me recently when I needed a quick way to solve this.

itsnotmeitsu · 04/09/2022 22:58

100% recommend Lanacane. After having this problem in Greece I googled and found this is used by cyclists against chafing. My skin is quite sensitive and I've even used it around my neck if wearing a woolly-type jumper. I also rub it on under my bra as I have some moles there. I think, as well, there is underwear out there that helps with this problem. You need to wear something that covers that bit where the thighs meet. Nobody cares if they see you're wearing it.

itsnotmeitsu · 04/09/2022 23:07

For those recommending plasters on the area > I used to have a long walk to work. One day I had very painful chafing/bleeding on the inside of my thighs due to wearing pants with lace edging, no tights. I stuck plasters on there in order to walk to work the next day. The agony of ripping off those plasters 😥I thought all my skin was going to come off with the plaster. I will never stick plasters on the top of my inner thighs again.

It is the best stuff in for this. I’ve tried other products marketed at chub rub directly and they don’t work.

caffelattetogo · 05/09/2022 03:27

Thank you so much. Lots better today. Thanks again.

Megababe stick is amazing - can buy on cult beauty!

Livinthedream84 · 05/09/2022 18:26

Oh I remember trying to ask for Vaseline in Spanish in a chemist in 38 degree heat. Not fun. She gave me a tube. Don’t know if it was Vaseline but it did the trick!!! Defo invest in some chubrub shorts for next time

JesusMaryAndJosephAndTheWeeDon · 05/09/2022 18:35

Compeed blister stick from the chemist to prevent further rubbing. Get a pair of lightweight stretchy shorts to wear under dresses urgently (prime delivery to your hotel). Or if you have any shops nearby lightweight cycling shorts or leggings.

cherrypiepie · 05/09/2022 18:42

Glad you are better. Its awful. Every step is torture

genius idea about cutting down tights!

caffelattetogo · 05/09/2022 22:40

Sadly not in UK and in a remote location so options were a bit limited. A combination of sudocrem, talc and chopped down leggings under a dress made things much better. But I did feel a bit like Ross in Friends when he wears the leather trousers and makes a paste with lotion and talc. Thank you so much for your help. You saved my holiday!

Someone ages ago recommended liquid talc and I have never looked back. Amazing for chaffing between legs and under bra. It was cheap as chips from somewhere like Asda or Wilko. In my opinion, It did the job far better than some of the expensive anti-chaffing creams

sonjadog · 06/09/2022 20:47

I must try this at the sides of my bra. For some reason it never occured to me that it might work there too.

TheChosenTwo · 06/09/2022 21:56

Oh ouch, it’s so bloody painful when you get caught out 😭
I find roll on deodorant works well but also have a couple of pairs of cycling shorts I always always wear under some of my long floaty dresses.
This happened to me when we were in Italy, I hadn’t thought about it until we were half an hour into walking somewhere and Jesus the sores on my inner thighs 😳 i remedied it in the short term with plasters which does provide absolute instant relief but does cause pain issues as a pp mentioned when you come to take them off!
