Jumpers that don't itch

I'm going to need decent jumpers that don't itch this year

Pretty sure I've tried and rejected lambswool, merino, certainly traditional itchy wool

I usually just wear cotton jumpers, but they're not going to be warm enough this year

I find anything that's cashmere (or a blend but a higher % of cashmere) is best but pricey of course.

I also don't hate a really soft acrylic jumper! They can be really warm and cosy if good quality. M&S does a line called Cashmilion which is super soft.

Double up, so put something like a hoodie or thick wool over a cotton

Icedlatteplease · 03/09/2022 07:12

Oh yes M& s cashmillion is lovely. I've got some v-necks that as probably close to 20 years old and still going strong. Fab for layering

Fleece is very warm, and so is acrylic.

A thermal vest would make your current clothing all feel much warmer.

Layering is very warm.

Shellingbynight · 03/09/2022 08:10

I agree with @carefullycourageous
I can't wear any type of wool, I find even cashmere itchy.
Use thermals / layers with your normal jumper over.
At home in winter I mainly wear at t-shirt with a fleece. When its v cold I replace the t-shirt with a long sleeve thermal vest.

Hate the itch. Sadly cashmere is the way forward - or long sleeved tops underneath. My best cashmere finds have been from Oxfam and Tesco - really hoping they do them again this year.

SheWoreYellow · 03/09/2022 08:12

I presume you’ve tried a long sleeved cotton T-shirt underneath?
I have a lovely thick acrylic men’s jumper from Sainsbury’s which is my other warm option. I can wear it with nothing underneath, it’s that un-itchy.
You need to go and feel in person I think, for both itch and thickness.

Animal fibres make me very itchy too. I've stopped wearing them because they're just not comfortable. I am also no longer comfortable with the ethics.

Not much choice other than cotton or acrylic is there? I would just layer up instead!

thedevilinablackdress · 03/09/2022 09:18

What do you wear underneath? That's the trick I think.

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 03/09/2022 09:20

Thermal roll neck or crew neck under every jumper. (Cotswold stone houses have always been chilly)

AnnaMagnani · 03/09/2022 09:21

Recycled cashmere or cashmere from Ebay.

TwoWeeksislong · 03/09/2022 09:24

A cotton/wool (esp cashmere) mix will be softer on the skin and warmer than cotton. Sometimes you can find clothes where the cotton yarn is facing the skin and the wool is facing out.

Also have you tried Alpaca? Very very warm and doesn’t contain lanolin, if that happens to be something you are sensitive to.
