Does a very supportive, non-wired bra exist?

Mozziebite · 01/09/2022 17:28

… and one that doesn’t give a monoboob?! Although I’ll take that if it’s the only way.

A bit tired of locking my not-perky boobs into an uncomfortable, wired boob prison every day just to alleviate back pain.

I’ve tried so many bras over the years.

Help! Anyone found the perfect bra? I don’t care how expensive!

Panache! I got a nursing one and I swear, it’s so comfy and sexy! Can’t wait to stop breastfeeding to try the regular non wired ones!

Not perfect, but the best I've found so far . Have you tried Triumph Doreen?

That's what I use

covilha · 09/09/2022 21:38

Just bought a Royce bra, the straps going to the back are wide but it is comfortable and avoids uniboob

Reallyreallyborednow · 09/09/2022 21:43

Of course they exist!

i have never worn underwires, even as a teen.

sports bras are the way to go.

shape wise M&S used to do good own brand ones. Currently I have the shock absorber ones which are comfy, hold everything in the right place and give a nice shape.

SorenLorensonsInvisibleFriend · 09/09/2022 21:44

This is the one for me - I bought it in cobalt and pink and they're both beautiful. Perfectly secure for my 32G boobs but also so comfortable and pretty feeling. Thoroughly recommend.

I rate this one. I know it’s M and S but I have big knockers too and they do it in your size! I have several.

Anita Jana. I get mine from Figleaves, usually when they're on some sort of offer because they're a heck of a price otherwise. Comfortable & supportive material though which washes and lasts well.

I also like the flexifit bra. It is slightly monobooby but very comfy. In fact I'm going to buy another one now 😁

I've been a Molke convert for several years and have no intentions of ever going back to underwired bras again.

I have C.F.S and fibromyalgia which has left my skin very sensitive to touch or pressure. Molke is the only supportive bra I've found that I can bare to wear. The original Molke bra gives me great lift and separation, and I'm far from small in that area.

They also offer free returns, as many times as you need, and fitting help over email if you need it.

Oh, and I had problems getting the original bra on too, especially with my illness, until someone on the Molke Facebook group recommended stepping in and pulling the bra up, it's an absolute game changer.

I find Molkes' flexi bras even more comfortable, but they don't give you as much separation as the originals, which is what the OP was looking for. Their racerbacks are comfy too, though nowhere near as much support, but I rarely leave the house so fine for me.

Justsaynonow · 09/09/2022 23:47

Conturve bras were recommended to me on a migraine support board s being the most comfy thing ever. One of the reviewers said she could wear it while riding a horse. Only issue is they only go up to DD.

Marks and Spencer Flexifit

Where I live, there’s a very experienced lady who runs a lingerie business from home. She can look at you and know what range of bras will be good for you.

Maybe have a look and see if there’s somebody like that near you.

Brightbluetwo · 10/09/2022 00:43

Always worn Calvin Klein. Have them in the regular ‘bralette’ and ‘lift bralette’. The regular bralette is incredibly comfortable I wear one almost every day and honestly forget I’m wearing it sometimes. But the lift bralette offers a lot more support as it has built in padding and more material in general. They are also amazing quality wash very well and have lasted me years with constant use. 100% recommend. I’m also a DD for reference so they do support larger boobs.

I’d agree with this. Not trendy. Think my m7m must have had these 🤣🤣🤣, but they absolutely do the job. And they come in very size you might need

Nope they don't.
They, as many others assume you can't be bigger than a B cup if you have a smaller chest 🙄
As a 32 GG this drives me insane.

Isthisexpected · 10/09/2022 07:36

I stayed in Hot Milk. Royce Charlotte from various retailers too.

absolute heaven in a bra. Gives a great shape. You may have to experiment with sizing

Meertje45 · 10/09/2022 08:29

There is a Facebook group called ‘A bra that fits’, moderated by incredibly knowledgeable and experienced brafitters from around the world. It really is worth using their bra calculator and buying some bras in the size it gives you, then checking in with them for a fit check providing some photos. The site contains lots of files with great advice, online shops, unusual cup/band sizes etc etc

poordrygarden · 10/09/2022 11:33

Royce "Charlotte" is my go to.

Really disappointed with Wear My Freedom- the cup was a funny shape and created that overhang boob look even in the bigger size.

Even worse, despite saying "free returns", you have to submit a request for "approval" to return, then wait for an approval email ... which of course didn't arrive until I emailed and tweeted.

Still waiting for the refund. Maybe I need to jump through some more hoops to get that?

Watch out - they're a sharp bunch.

Bestcatmum · 10/09/2022 11:37

I wear Triumph Doreen. I love them. And bras from Miss Mary are my 2nd favourites. The sizes of both come up very small though.

I just had a problem with Wear My Freedom too! I ordered after recommendations here, but it gave me red lines (the sports bra) along my armpits after wearing for one day. I have asked if I can return for a refund but I don’t know what they’ll say as I did wear it for a day - it was very comfortable at first and I thought I’d finally found my ideal bra, but painful along my armpits when I took it off. It fit perfectly too. A very pricey and very regretful mistake if they say no (as it was worn once) as I am never wearing it again.

The hunt continues! Luckily I have lots of recommendations here to give a go!

poordrygarden · 11/09/2022 07:54

@Mozziebite oh no, that sounds painful!

Well, I'm still waiting for my refund and I returned two bras that had been tried on for all of 2 minutes, tags attached, packed correctly etc. with the "approval" that I had to chase to obtain.

There are a lot of ads on social media so I'd say they are probably more likely to respond if contacted publicly.

There is no phone number for them anywhere.

I wonder if they "plant" recommendations here too.

Did you notice the bras also had a weird smell?!

CoverYourselfInChocolateGlory · 11/09/2022 07:57

I really like the Cosabella bralettes - but they are not cheap!

Puffincino · 11/09/2022 08:14

For the bras you already own you can often cut out the bit that hurts and keep wearing. I've just bought (non returnable) so-called wireless tshirt bras from Tesco. 3 for £15. I can't afford anything different and thought they'd be great until after an hour there was a hole in my armpit.

Turned out there was no under-wire but there was bastard rigid side boning that made them unwearable if I was sitting.

No way of getting my money back so nothing to lose. Unpicked the seam, threw away the boning and resewiing took an hour by hand and has made an unwearable bra wearable.

It's easier/quicker to pull out the underwire if that's the problem.

Ideally I'd like bras that fit and don't hurt me. But sometimes you have to work with what you have. Hope this helps someone in the same situation.

uncomfortable, wired boob prison

That is thankfully not my experience of wired bras. I don't notice when I'm wearing my wired bra and am glad to put on in the morning as am more comfortable than without.

Have you ever had a proper bra fitting? As a teenager with larger than average breasts, I saved up for a fitting at https://www.rigbyandpeller.com

I've worn their recommendation ever since. Only go back for a refit if I have lost or gained a lot of weight. The wires lie flat to my body, nothing digs in so I don't feel any discomfort

I'd encourage you to eke a days holiday, make an appointment and give them a try. I've dragged so many friends there, they have all said it was way better than they expected and are very pleased with the results xx
