I don't think I can go back to jeans

Just like lockdown & heels, this summer has taken away my ability to wear jeans. I've lived in floaty dresses all summer... tried to wear jeans yesterday and felt so claustrophobic and uncomfortable! Maybe wide-legged jeans? I've been trawling for trousers that can take the place of jeans and I haven't gotten too far. I tried the wide legged trousers that I have but they're not especially practical for a SAHM. Don't like leggings (feel a bit over them mostly because I'm fat!)

So far I've ordered these pants and this dress

Nor me. I just don't find them comfortable anymore. There's cords around and leggings still, which I will wear sometimes. Otherwise I think I'll be in skirts and dresses.

I moved to wide leg cords, puddle jeans and combats. The combats are cuffed so can be worn with my docs in winter and the wider legs could be worn with chunky trainers on dry days. I will still likely use leggings in very wet weather with waterproof coats and boots though.

I do have some very soft 90's style jeans with a wider leg and lower rise which i can't even feel on they're so comfy, a million years away from the tight, constrictive jeans of the past 2 decades!
I like how I can wear neat and tight tops with them too, makes a change the long, floppy top look.

I tried dresses over the past 2 winters and it just didn't work for me - I like the outdoors and walking, getting a bit messy, etc. I found them to be a bit of a pain to accessorise in bad weather, and so many of them are so thin, with patterns that weren't really suitable for just going outdoors. Great for special occasions, work, or days in the city, but not for my ordinary life.

I have those M&S ones and I love them. I'm not sure how I'm going to wear them for winter though - they look fine with trainers but can't imagine them working with boots.

abovedecknotbelow · 01/09/2022 17:17

Me too - I'm still in shorts and dresses. I'll just be pairing my dresses with tights and boots.

I don’t wear trousers at all, for exactly that reason. I do have a funny body shape (doesn’t bother me, but is a fact). Waist is size 10-12 but legs more like a size 16 to 18. Heredical, not due to illness. If I lose weight waist goes gown to size 8 and legs to size 14, so no difference. Means it’s very difficult to find fitting trousers, unless they are a size 12 with extremely wide legs.

Dresses and skirts are wonderful. Fortunately I can chose to wear them. I get really angry when I read about school uniform policies where girls are forced to wear trousers. Not everyone has the matching body shape!

N0tfinished · 01/09/2022 18:07

@Ariadnee they are hard to pair a coat with. If the coat isn't longer than the dress then they can look quite messy, and you can't really wear a practical puffer or rain jacket. Warmth-wise It makes a huge difference if you wear leggings underneath! But I agree, trousers are just more practical.

@mynameiscalypso - good to hear! They'll at least get me through autumn till my ankles get too cold...

@BabyShaark - I'm kind of complete opposite- enormous boobs and big tummy, smaller legs. It still makes trousers difficult because waist/hip sizing is always wrong. The recent fashion for big boxy tops was great for me! Bottom half, not so much...

I live in jersey trousers, today's are from Next but my go to trousers are Peacocks yoga pants. They look great with casual stuff but can be dressed up with a nice top and heels, and they're dead cheap

BabyShaark · 01/09/2022 21:36

OP I feel your pain. Opposite direction, though. Top half was always on the small side, started out with tiny boobs but broad shoulders (basically a man’s upper body). Cup size was 36 AA. £5,000 later and I’m 36 D (own choice, I like having boobs). I’m totally happy with my legs, if there’s no trousers out there for me … we’ll that’s a loss for the fashion industry 😂

There’s plenty of alternatives out there for us girls with uniquely beautiful bodies!!! I do like leggings tho, I find them very comfy although when I’m walking it does look a bit … wobble wobble 😂😂😂

Yellowblanketofdoom · 01/09/2022 21:40

Just wear dresses with boots in the winter? I've always preferred dresses. I'm short with short legs and a normal body. So trousers have always been hard.

LizzieSiddal · 01/09/2022 21:50

I’m the same and have previously lived in jeans, summer has put a stop to that and I’ve bought lots of dresses, the only problem is I’ve put weight on.
As soon as jeans became a little tight I’d watch my weight for a few weeks and all would be fine. That doesn’t work with floaty dresses sadly!

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 01/09/2022 21:57

Yes! I was thinking this just today, I don't want to wear clothes I have to feel! You know, cutting into me round the waist, bisecting me at the crotch, that kind of thing. Dresses and flip flops have been so easy all summer, and now I'm supposed to go back into these instruments of torture?!

And yes, I know I can wear dresses in winter, but then I have to wear tights, but they are itchy and uncomfortable.

I'm in harem pants with a vest top and a big cardigan right now, and that's fine, but won't be warm enough once we get into cold weather. I don't like wearing leggings unless I'm actually working out. So what the ever living fuck do I wear??? 😫

Papergirl1968 · 01/09/2022 22:19

I can't wear jeans any more. Too uncomfortable. And I feel too dressed up in a dress.
I'm fat and wear jeggings or occasionally leggings with a long, baggy top that covers stomach and bum.

Can anyone recommend a jersey trouser, that doesn't fade after one wash, I brought a black pair from m&s £17.50 washed once, and they look grey, I do use liquid for colors, I have a navy pair I brought as I loved the fit of the first pair , haven't washed them yet.
