Another Autumn thread - jumpers for big boobs?

lurchermummy · 31/08/2022 19:18

I LOVE Autumn and am so happy to be able to wear boots and coats again. However....I have big boobs and find jumpers often make me look bigger than I am. I used to wear a scarf at the neck but I gather that is frowned upon now. What do my fellow big boobed friends do?

Ooh, what’s the downside of wearing a scarf around the neck? Interested as I’ve been looking forward to wearing one.

BlueKaftan · 31/08/2022 20:05

As a fellow big boober I don’t wear jumpers. I layer and only wear long thin scarves.

userxx · 31/08/2022 20:09

I love scarfs, who cares if they're frowned upon! I've also got a decent set and don't wear jumpers, you end up looking a bit matronly.

maeveiscurious · 31/08/2022 20:17

I think a blazer type gilet or soft blazer breaks up the line of the jumper

Numbat2022 · 31/08/2022 20:20

V neck jumpers, preferably longline. They're very hard to find.

Following for top tips and even some links if I'm lucky

It's quite reasonable to wear a scarf with a coat outside when it's cold. Isn't it "indoor" scarfs that are out of style?

With jumpers it's a case of trying some different shapes, necklines and weights. There will likely be something to suit. How about thinner cashmere type jumpers?

Dogtooth · 31/08/2022 20:27

I just handknit myself a jumper with the outline of some tiny tits on it, works a treat

Spudina · 31/08/2022 20:27

I wear deep v necks. Bordering on slutty, as that’s the only way to make sure my books don’t look like my waist. Then I use a scarf for my neck.

It’s taken me years, going through some perfectly nice jumpers, to realise they aren’t the best for me and my bust. Either they are oversized or bulky which adds additional bulk where you don’t want it, or they are fine and slim fitting and you end up looking like a 1950s pin up. Cardigans, of all types, are better as they create a vertical line.

Indoor/cotton/viscose scarves are indeed out, doesn’t fit in with the more minimalist aesthetic of now and more likely to be something your mum wears. I’ve got a ridiculously long neck as well as low big boobs so they were a Godsend for covering things up, though having two ends hanging/draped over the bust probably wasn’t ever a good look. I find wearing a higher neck base layer is possible if you cover with a cardigan as it splits the bust in two.

May seem counterintuitive, but jumpers in thinner fabrics work better for me - anything thick (eg. a chunky knit) makes me look like a barrel. Also a boat-neck / slash-neck; 3/4 sleeves or balloon sleeves if possible. Basically this, but a jumper rather than a top: www.zalora.com.ph/zalora-work-balloon-sleeves-boat-neck-blouse-brown-1738982.html

Sadly, we must avoid chunky knits for fear of looking like the marshmallow man from Ghostbusters.
I like thin, silky knit v necks, a size up, maybe a bright camisole or vest underneath. For very cold days, a long sleeveless cardy or thin waistcoat.
Not so big you look like a drowned rat but big enough for a bit of drape, liquidity.

Sezane has lots of lovely v-neck knitwear that I’m mulling over at the moment. A lot of their knitwear is designed to be worn back to front as an alternative, so you have the choice of necklines (eg in the first link)

Some I like the look of:

@Dogtooth > 'I just handknit myself a jumper with the outline of some tiny tits on it, works a treat' - love it 😄.
I have loads of jumpers and it does seem to be difficult to find them without a neckline that practically strangles you these days. My theory (based on no evidence whatsoever) is that everything's being produced in the same Chinese factories and the template is based on men's bodies. As an older women I feel that lower necklines - v-necks, etc, are more flattering than having a neckline that is so close to your face. It emphasises the part where the neck has started to sag. I have the same problem with t-shirts; can I find v-necked ones, no they all seem to be the ones that have the neckline that surrounds your throat.

But, back to the OP, I do think lower necked jumpers are more flattering because otherwise you can end up looking like one big top-half which disguises the fact that you actually have a feminine figure.

lindyloo57 · 01/09/2022 17:07

I'm petite with larger boobs, I've always hated jumpers as they make me look like a box, but i feel the cold, I have invested in cashmere jumpers buying them in the sale, but when it's really cold I wear a polo neck thermal from m&s under for extra warmth,

Givemesunshines · 01/09/2022 19:33

I either wear completly oversized jumpers or small cashmere cardis that stop ar rhe waist for shape / defintion
