Any colourists? Filling? Going from blonde to dark.

I have a full head of blonde highlights last done 5 months ago. I am naturally dark brown and grey. I want to go back to brown as my hair is ruined snd the colour washes me out. After looking online I'd like it filled first, but nowhere seems to offer this. What is your advice? I don't want washed out colour or green. Thanks!

I dye my hair at home and have gone red to blonde to brown to black to red to blonde etc for the past 35 years or so. So I’d just pick a shade of brown I liked and see what happens

So you just box dyed it brown? I would have done this when younger but I'm about to start a new job and don't want to take a risk! Did the brown last on the blonde?

You need to pre-pigment it. Bleach oxidises the red molecules so you need to add these back before putting in the final colour. Ideally with a semi or quasi colour

Please don't put a straight brown on it as you'll end up khaki

Thank you! Can you please recommend a product?

Don't do a box colour! Go hairdresser if going from blonde to brown. I went blonde to brown about 3 years ago, now in the process of going blonde again as easier to hide the grey.

If you do it at home you'll likely end up green

How do I make them fill it first though? They just want to dye it! I think I will only last for a year or 2, but so sick of damaged hair.

You need to use a pink/red first, a wash in wash out will do it, then choose the brown you want. Best to pick one slightly lighter as tends to go darker than you anticipated. Have done this plenty of times. If you want a red/brown colour instead of a flat brown you can go straight to that (a mahogany for example)

You can do a box colour - anything with a red pigment in it. However, it will fade to a greenish tinge at some point. That may be a day, it may be a month. I used Schwarzkopf chocolate brown or similar (blue box). Would be worth seeing the hairdresser.

After that I used the red box poly colour red black. Amazing colour. Impossible to get rid of.

I'd probably go for this; it's a true semi so will only deposit colour and you can therefore colour straight over it without risking condition. It will however turn you a very foxy hue (probably not in good way) so you may want to give yourself a few hours to do it

I did, dyed it a lightish brown with red tones in think - asked on here and think that was the advice. Then after a week or so dyed it the brown I wanted. No green tinges at all but I found colour faded fast and I preferred being blonde.

Thanks. I might just keep growing the blonde out for a bit longer.

I used Osmo colour conditioner in chestnut brown (warm undertones), left it on for an hour before rinsing out. Applied it with a dye brush to get everything rather than just slapping it on. It took on my blonde and took me back to brown. Then each week I'd leave some on for 15 mins as a top up. Saved making hair condition worse with another permanent dye
