Make up in photo's

So I went on a night out with friends and thought my make-up looked good as I was leaving but now seeing pics of us I look ghostly. I have no colour whatsoever and all my friends did, so it wasn't the lighting.

I wore a shimmering primer, no 7 hydroluminous foundation, eyeliner, mascara, eyeshadow, highlighter and lipstick.
None of it showed up on the photos, my skin also looked very dry which I didn't think it did irl.
I'm just shocked by my appearance, has anyone got any tips on what I'm doing wrong . I'm 42 so don't like to be too heavy with make-up.

Shimmering primer, luminous foundation and highlighter will all have reflective particles, so you are wearing 3 layers of reflector! What you are seeing is a reflection of light/flash. Try a different primer and maybe even a different Foundation

My face always used to look very pale in photos. It’s the light reflecting formulas. It looked fine in real life.

I like the light reflection so I avoid the photos!

Too much light reflection. It sucks coz my skin looks sooo much better with my fancy light reflecting makeup :(

I had the same problem. My sister always looks so healthy in photos but IRL she is orange! I on the other hand always wear SPF and apparently that can also affect how you look in photos and she never wears it.

Thanks for the replies,

Wow I got it so wrong I thought the more shimmering the more it would reflect better. I'll try a different primer I think .
Yes admittedly I like to look natural and no caked in make up but it obviously doesn't do much for photos.

Yes all about the reflection , you can buy actual foundations etc that don’t reflect light for photos, more matte foundations will always look better in none professional photography.

I'd add blusher or bronzer. Add some warmth and colour.

schmalex · 18/12/2022 09:35

You need blusher and bronzer if you're wearing foundation otherwise you'll just look pale.

Agree that the light-reflecting shimmer is probably not helping.

Ocrumbs · 18/12/2022 09:38

Don't use foundation with spf in and try not to use too much luminous stuff. Consider a setting powder too.
