Mousse for thin 2b hair?

My hair is so thin and frizzy, the curls are 2b. I need a mouse to give it some volume but not make it stringy. Can you recommend anything?

Hi OP! I have tried many many hair products for my curls over the years ... I think it's a matter of trial and error. Some work on others, but not me. At the moment I like the L'Oréal hair mousse Dream Lengths. The product that has given me the most volume though was always the umberto giannini flowerology (pic attached). I usually get it in boots.

Yes! This is my hair. I wash and condition it with Faith in Nature shampoo and conditioner and then when still totally wet rake through a very small amount of Curls Blueberry Bliss Reparative Leave In Conditioner and then scrunch in a big ball of Tresemme Botanique Nourish Hair Mousse. Squeeze out some excess moisture and dry with a diffuser.

My hair has never looked better, I get smooth defined curls and the occasional ringlet. I followed welshcurliegirl on Instagram for these product recommendations.

The Curls leave in conditioner is quite pricey but I use such a small amount it lasts for months.

One thing, the key to "non stringy" is adding the mousse to sopping wet hair so perhaps any mousse would do... I comb my conditioner through with my head upside down, rinse it upside down then comb it through again still upside down. Add the products and then very gently scrunch out the water with a microfiber towel. For the scrunching bit I am generally standing upright and flip it from side to side.

John Frieda works well for me. I've stopped using conditioner as it weighs down my hair too much and makes it go flat.

Oh this is me too! I think the answer is half about the products you use and half about how you use them. As others say, different products will work for different people.

I use an organic bar shampoo from the local market. I gently scrunch my hair as I wash (rather than just standing under the shower head as I use to) I use the tiniest amount of Noughty Wave Hello conditioner and, after rinsing, plop my wet curls into a t shirt. I dont comb my hair or towel dry it. After 10 mins, I spray a watered down Cantu Custard gel (very watered down), wrap it up again for a bit while I do other stuff, then dry with a diffuser. Its taken me a while to work out how much watered gel is enough to hold the curls and not go crispy and how long to leave curls in a tee shirt. I end with Olaplex 6 on dry hair and a spray of EVO powder at the roots. My hair's never looked better or curlier. I wash it only once a week and it gets curlier as the week progresses. I get a dry trim now from my hairdresser too who was amazed when he first saw my hair after taking up this routine: when he'd seen last, it was straight and straggly.

I've tried almost every mousse and my all time favourite is Shockwaves No 5 Volume one. Its the best and doesn't dry my hair out it actually makes it lovely and soft with great hold.

I use Zhoosh foam, it works well for me. I let my hair almost dry then comb it through, it's also good for boosting dry hair when I don't want to wash it.

I actually had a cry about the state of my hair the day I posted this. I feel a it better now that I will give some of these products a go. Thank you everyone.

My hair started thinning quite noticeably a couple of years ago, partly my age but I was also under a lot of stress. I have bought a topper which I wear when I want to look as nice as I can and also when my colour needs redoing. It's amazing, no-one knows I have it on as it blends in with my own hair but I willingly tell anyone with thinning hair as it is a bit of a life saver. I bought a Jean Renou, may not have spelt that correctly, from a place where I could have it fitted and cut in to my own hair. It was not expensive as I didn't buy real hair, honestly you wouldn't know and it's easier to manage. You can buy online too but it does need to be a good match. It might not be for you, but I thought it worth mentioning.

I take Vitabiotics Hair vitamins too, my hairdresser recommended them but I'm not completely sure they've made much difference.

I've been through some rough times with my hair OP and it takes some trial and error to get the techniques and products right but worth it!!
