Tell me where you get your inspiration please....

Following on from the skinny jeans debacle thread.... I'm interested to know where those who don't care about high fashion and also don't want to look like an identikit influencer in crop tops/baggy jeans/beige oversize toteme stuff/levis and a white t shirt/french girl red lip and reformation dress/gigantic, tiered peasant dress (delete as appropriate to your demographic....) get their inspiration. Any names to follow on Instagram or pintrest?

I struggle to define my style. I would say I do like most of the stuff Whistles does. I like Toast sometimes but it's too oversize for me (I'm tall and skinny and don't want to look like Hagrid). Cos has some gems but I prefer a more feminine look to the extreme scandi minimalism.
Styles that suit me best are an above the knee dress, tights and chelsea boots. Skinny jeans, flats and a pea coat. I steer clear of joules/fat face and boden. I like to look smart and feel underdressed in a t-shirt. Anyone with me?!

Me! I don't have much advice as I'm having similar issues, but the styles that suit me best are the same. I have introduced mom jeans and midi dresses to my wardrobe to update it a bit but I often stick to what suits me. I've also added in chunky DMs instead of Chelsea boots.

French Instagrammers can be quite good as I find their style a bit more classic than the London bloggers who all tend to look the same. I like the petite style ones as I'm quite short. Try mary_pollypock, maudabraham, adsmol83 and styling genes.

Why do you have to define your style?

Unless you’re trying to sell your image on social media. I mean, I just buy what I like. Over the years I’ve developed a clearer idea of what I find exciting, and what works for me - and realised those two things are not always combined in the same garment or outfit - but ‘inspiration’ comes from everything I see, not a particular person.

I like the idea of being inspired, but the reality is much more narrow than this for me because aside from MN I'm not on any other social media. For a long time I was drawn to looks I'd see represented by characters in tv and film but I didn't know how to find these clothes and did my best to find things I liked. The there was a thread here that listed different styles and I learned that the kind of look I like is "dark academia", and further rabbit-holing about it taught me that if anything inspires me it's early to mid-century women in art and architecture! It made shopping and getting dressed easier as I was wasting less time in a muddle not understanding why an item seemed perfectly fine but didn't tick the right boxes for me, for example 50's kitsch is fun but not my thing, but overlaps the same era that I am interested in.

@MuddlerInLaw Why do you have to define your style?

Because she's starting a thread looking for people with similar style and trying to describe it..? Buying what you like is all well and good, but often if it's not on trend it's harder to find.

Bookmarking as feel similar. I’m short and booby and tend to go for Jigsaw/Whistles and French Connection. For work opaque/ boots and mini dress or mini skirt/top. Struggling at the moment as have put on weight so not all my clothes fit.

The white company is reasonable for mid-life style inspiration, and the look can be easily matched with similar things from more cost friendly places.

I guess because I sometimes buy things that I like but I end up not wearing them or them not going with anything I have. I'm looking for a more cohesive wardrobe.

I'd also like to see people who wear similar clothes to be so I can get some additional ideas as to what might look good/what I could tweak to make things more interesting. I suppose the issue might be that I hate most current trends.

@dudsville I love dark academia too!

@KimmySchmitt I agree on french instagram but have the opposite problem to you as am very tall!
