Hi I want to get my early teen aged step daughter some makeup for Christmas (am budgeting so wanting to keep an eye out in sales etc). What is in? Urban Decay? MAC?

I would suggest you check out Glossier. It’s a lovely brand and has a young but cool vibe to it. Products are also good!

chillipenguin · 27/08/2022 07:56

Thank you

Morphe

undecided112 · 27/08/2022 08:04

Urban decay and Mac are a bit outdated now!

sorbetseason · 27/08/2022 08:05

What about revolution? I have been looking at them for a few things and they seem to have overwhelming choice and cute things (I mean I keep thinking ‘I’m too old for that’)

Glad I asked!

I once suggested Charlotte Tilbury to my teen, it was like I'd suggested dressing like Miss Marple! Good you're asking.

Fenty is very popular.

savethebeesandthecees · 27/08/2022 08:28

Oh, and Revolution is very affordable to start with and their advent calendar is always half price by November and good starting point with lots of their range.

bjjgirl · 27/08/2022 08:34

My 13 year old dd just uses lip gloss and masacara and a clear eyebrow shaper mascara thing.
I would say revolution is a good buy.
Nail varnish and remover etc is a good buy too, you can get the gel sets with lamps

The fashion round here is no makeup look, she never wears it

bjjgirl · 27/08/2022 08:35

If you want her to love you forever and she likes the you tube then check out des vu.

kimchifox · 27/08/2022 08:38

You won't go wrong with Glossier - if you are on a budget get one nice thing from there if you can afford it and a few bits and bobs from the high street.

chillipenguin · 27/08/2022 08:40

Ok revolution and glossier it is! Thanks so much.

Dd 16 has always used revolution they also do really cute special editions in tv shows films Disney etc.

But for nice treats she used morphe benefit. Too faced

Rainallnight · 27/08/2022 08:52

Morphe

ShirleyJackson · 27/08/2022 08:53

There was a massive queue of young teenage girls and their long-suffering mums outside the Covent Garden branch of Glossier last time I was in London.

Blush21 · 27/08/2022 08:57

I wouldn’t bother with glossier personallly as it’s a very subtle makeup. Revolution, Nyx and beauty bay own brand eye shadow pallets are fab, everything a teen could need! Morphe is also good. Avoid the expensive stuff. When she runs out will she be able to afford to replace it? Benefit brow products are still a hit. Maybelline have fab lipsticks/lip products too.

Kathsmum · 27/08/2022 08:57

Revolution good place to start.

Daughter loves benefit maybe try and go on a quiet day to browse in big dept store? They’ll often do eyes etc free and you just need to buy one or 2 products she likes?

FartOutLoudDay · 27/08/2022 08:58

Halsey has a makeup range now - about-face - which I think my DD will like due to the association

Haha, it could have been me in that queue! To be fair it is a shopping experience - you can try everything - it's all testers - then you tell a staff member what your order is and pay and then go to a little waiting area to collect your products. It's like a very upmarket Argos! You get a nice little bag and some free stickers 😂. Very bouji as my DD would say. Fortunately they also have a website.

AdamRyan · 27/08/2022 09:01

Fenty if you want to be spendy
Or my teen girls are very keen on elf

sorbetseason · 27/08/2022 09:07

Ooh I’d imagine you’d be popular with an advent calendar, means she can be using bits and pieces throughout December which is when all the fun stuff like parties happen.

kittybloom · 27/08/2022 09:12

Kiko is good for that age group (and I quite like some of their products too!)

vroom321 · 27/08/2022 09:16

I agree with Morphe plus Barry M.

kimchifox · 27/08/2022 09:25

Beauty advent calendars are fun but a) is her DM likely to get one and b) presumably you still need to get an actual Christmas present?! The good beauty calendars are sold out quite early on and I think they are £££!

Benefit is also popular with DD for brow and lash products but doesn't have quite the same cachet. I think at 13 she would have been made up with it though. (Boom boom)
