Women who use fake tan on holiday - help!

I want to use fake tan whilst I’m on holiday (hot country) at the end of Sep but it just doesn’t stay put.

Last time I did this, I put tan on and it looked great but sun lotion just melts it off in patches and combined with sun, sea etc. I ended up applying every evening and washing it off in the morning.

It isn’t how I want to spend my holiday this year but I don’t feel confident without it as I always get comments on my white ‘ghost’ skin. One man on the beach pretended to jokingly stand on me and then said ‘ooh didn’t see you there lol!’ implying I was as white as the sand! Which I am but there’s no need to be such a nob about it tbh.

In the U.K. this tan stays on for weeks so it’s a good tan.

Someone said I should just put it on before I go and then as it fades I’ll get a real tan but I really won’t. If I don’t wear factor 50, I burn, within like 5-10 mins of being in the sun. The only way I tan is if I burn first and I’m not doing that as it’s dangerous.

Does anyone else successfully wear tan that doesn’t need nightly topping up on holiday?

I know I should embrace my natural Celtic skin colour and I am working on that but until then, any tips would be very welcome ☺️ Thank you!

Before your first tan, spend the week exfoliating and moisturising as much as you can to make sure the top layers of skin are in as good condition as possible. I use the Bondi sands mousse before I go.

when I’m away, I use creamy sun lotion (I find oily stuff breaks down the fake tan on the top layers of skin more quickly!) and then in the evenings use gradual tan moisturiser to both maintain my skin (and stop the original tan breaking down) as well as topping up the colour.

Thank you I will. I bought the Bondi Sands express which I think is a mousse. Also got the exfoliating mitt so will scrub away!

That sounds like my plan, gradual tan moisturiser in place of after sun 🙌🏻

I always get a spray tan (St Tropez) before which gets me through the first 5 days or so. I stay in the shade so don't need so much sun cream - this always ruins fake tan for me. I also stay out of the pool. Sea swimming isn't too bad but pool swimming strips a fake tan within minutes for me. Then I use gradual tan to top up. There is no tanning to be had - agree with the random red patches and back to white. I find it hard when people make those personal comments about pale skin but after a few days and a few wines I care less!

I am natural redhead and I use zhuzh tan accelerator when ever the sun is out its a spray or wipes - it definitely does work. For fake tan the coconut oil skinny tan smells really nice to put on before a holiday . Also cabana Cabana Sun
CABANA Deep Tanning Dry Oil Spray SPF20 - 200 ml amzn.eu/d/8Knfw1m
do sun protction with tan accelerator for while you"re away . Have a great hol !

I am Irish with dark hair and pure white freckly skin. When I lived in uk and Ireland I fake tanned constantly and spent a fortune on spray tans etc.
Moved to Switzerland 6 years ago and people actually asked me what the orange stuff on my legs was!!! I said it was sunless tanner and they said but it is not a tan it is orange.
i realised I was kidding myself and now I just embrace my pallor. It is SO LIBERATING.

Yes it’s the pool that does it. I prefer the sea anyway, chlorine makes me 🤢 That’s true after a few days I do care less about my white bits. 🙌🏻

How rude! I bet it didn’t look too bad really.

I’m very dark haired too (people ask if it’s real 😑) and very freckly! The good thing about being pale and using fake tan though is that I avoid the sun so don’t look my age 🙌🏻

Thank you I’ll check this out, although I’ve got my holiday tans now I might keep this in mind for future 😁

This happens to me too and what I find helps is:
using oil free body sunscreen - it's the oil that eats the fake tan
Always rinsing in the shower by the pool after I get out to rinse off the chlorine
No hot showers (easy as usually roasting!)
No scrubbi g/rubbing with towels

I usually do two heavy layers before I go two consecutive nights before flight and then only do fake tan once on holiday usually around day 3 or 4.

I have the same problem, I double tan before I go (st tropez dark mousse) tan properly maybe once over there but then use Sunshimmer instant tan to fill in the gaps while I’m sunbathing and dove gradual tan after a shower to ‘top up’

I look a right mess when I’m on the last day of the holiday but this routine leaves me bronzed for a good 5/6 days, it’s worth it as makes me feel so much better ☀️☀️

I'm pale but married to a European that goes a lovely golden shade! Not the best for the skin but better than burning.....I go on the sunbeds the month before to get a base tan and balance it out with the fact I don't burn when there

I’m currently in Turkey.

The trick has been massive exfoliation before the holiday - soak in a bath then exfoliate. Then gradual tan every night after a shower. I’m at the beach everyday, which pretty much exfoliates me each day. So I shower off all the saltwater, sand and sun cream then apply gradual tan. I have been exfoliating a little in the shower, but also a little wary as I don’t think it’s great on slightly sunburnt skin. I’m not really burnt at all but don’t want to aggravate anything.

have fun on holiday!
