Has anyone successfully dyed cashmere?

I have two cashmere jumpers in very bright colours (bright yellow and a grass green) and would like to dye at least the yellow one to a more wearable hue. Ideally navy, burgundy or a burnt orange.

is this doable? Has anyone had any success dying cashmere? If so, any tips?

You need specialist dyes for dyeing protein based fibres like wool and silk, you won't get results with Dylon. If go online and look for a textile art supplies website and read the product blurbs. From what I remember heat with is involved with protein dyes so quite tricky to dye a garment without shrinking or felting.

It's possible, but unless you are an expert I would almost guarantee a patchy result. I'm assuming the jumpers are hand wash only?

I dye yarn sometimes and cashmere is just another form of animal fibre and will dye with an acid dye. However you will need a really huge pan that the yarn can move freely in. You need heat, but DON'T agitate the jumper or it will felt.

Don’t use machine based dylon. It will felt and shrink. I know this from experience. Works for merino though.

Oh maybe trickier than I’d thought. The jumpers are boden ones, I always wash them on a cold wool wash in the machine but I wouldn’t heat them. I was hoping a dylon type hand dye might work. Don’t want a patchy result though!
