Chipped gel nails pay for repair?

22 replies

Keepingupappearance · 21/08/2022 19:15

I had gel and infill done last Tuesday and there’s already big chips on three nails. I haven’t done anything y usual and I’ve never had this much chipping before.

if I went back to the nail saloon would I normally pay for a repair? I don’t mind paying - just not sure what normal etiquette is??

anyine know??

thank you!

My salon’s policy is any chips within 3 days are repaired by them, anything over is on the customer

Keepingupappearance · 21/08/2022 19:18

ah okay thanks

think I’ll offer to pay and then see what they say!

Only “free” writhing 24 hours where I go.

Keepingupappearance · 21/08/2022 19:38

@Welshrarebitontoast thanks!

Are you using nail oil? It stops the nail absorbing water every time you wash and pulling the nail away from the coating.

MagicMatilda · 21/08/2022 19:41

They shouldn’t be chipping that quickly! Have you had your nails done there before? Seems like maybe they made a mistake

Keepingupappearance · 21/08/2022 19:43

Yep I’ve had my nails done there before lots of times and never a problem.

oh you know what - I weather lots of dishes this weekend and I didn’t hAve dish washing gloves. Some of it was pots so I used boiling water. Hmmm - could that cause the chipping????

thanks all!

Mine will redo within a week. Gel really shouldn’t chip.

Welshrarebitontoast · 21/08/2022 19:46

@Keepingupappearance within! Not writhing. 😱

Hope you get it sorted.

Keepingupappearance · 21/08/2022 19:47

@Welshrarebitontoast noted - shall not writhe when getting them redone

😂 yes you need gloves. Gel polish isn’t Kevlar.

Well that’s that mystery solved.

Keepingupappearance · 21/08/2022 19:53

@Fluffycloudland77 yes. I took it too far 😂

I had shellac done recently and it chipped on several nails within a few days, this was the second time from the same salon I've had this issue, I called and they got me in to remove it and redo it, and lo and behold within a few days it's done the same thing. I don't have the patience to go back yet again, so will just not use them in the future. I understand there is a difference between shellac, and various types/brands of 'gel', was it exactly the same type you had as the previous times? I expect gel nails to last about two weeks without chipping ( use cuticle oil and moisturise, I think that helps) but a few days is not on, especially when it isn't cheap.

DelilahBucket · 21/08/2022 21:53

Had gels on mine on Tuesday and still going strong despite enduring the beach, chlorine, routing around in bags a millions times, washing up and suncream. I'd be really annoyed if they chipped so soon.

GiantCheeseMonster · 21/08/2022 21:57

I would add that if it’s red or always seems more prone to chipping than other colours. I can get three weeks easily from blue, greens etc with no chips but reds seem more fragile.

gogohmm · 21/08/2022 22:02

I've found that sometimes the gel doesn't set properly, I wonder if the bottle is old or something. I also stick to dnd now as it's definitely stronger

Keepingupappearance · 21/08/2022 22:05

No idea what gel it is - it’s a light pink.

@gogohmm ehats dnd?

I am annoyed - it is expensive and the whole reason I pay is to avoid constant chipping…

@Fluffycloudland77 can you say more about the nail oil? I've not heard that before. What should I be doing, and when?

I've started doing my own nails. I really need a low effort, easy system. I've got an all in one base and colour which seems to have worked well so far!

Fluffycloudland77 · 22/08/2022 10:54

Nails absorb water faster than skin, it makes them change shape and pulls them away from the polish. If you use a nail oil, CND is my fave, it fills up the nail with oil and repels water. It also stops the skin drying out if you put it around the nail too.

picklemewalnuts · 22/08/2022 13:19

Thank you. Do you use it several times a day, like handcream? Or just before you apply the gelish?

DobbyTheHouseElk · 22/08/2022 13:20

Go back to the salon, offer to pay and see what they say. Sounds to me like you have been a bit hard on your nails.
