Simple, quality clothes!

I’m trying to buy simple, quality clothes as my old items become ready to be replaced but I really only want very plain pieces so I can mix & match a lot, ie a midi block colour dress for autumn with no writing, print, labels, frills or details etc. I really like Reiss but it’s well beyond my budget. Equally, I’m trying to avoid fast fashion. Any tips for brands I could look at as an alternative? I’m 41 & quite tall.

I like Saint and Sofia for good quality basics. They male beautiful trousers and simple tops.

AuntieMarys · 18/08/2022 06:31

Cos?

Bluebonnet3 · 18/08/2022 06:33

Uniqlo can be good for basics. I'm pretty sure they do some tall length trousers and a variety of dress lengths. I tend to go for their t shirts, sweaters, leggings, camisoles, winter thermal layers, plain button front shirts, and sometimes trousers. The plainer the better! (Then you can pair them with other things, whether plain or more characterful.) I'm 43.

Community Clothing ticks all those boxes, but might be too casual for you.

NRBY
Aspiga
Baukjen
Me and Em
Toast

I buy all of the above either in their sales or from EBay

Reis's on Vinted or eBay?

Ravenclawdropout · 18/08/2022 06:50

Uniglo.

Go second hand - eBay or Vinted, as mentioned above - and pick brands like Reiss, Jaeger, LK Bennett and Jigsaw. The quality will generally be great and you can save a fortune. Check out Brandalley too for the same brands.

Mango

I came on to say Uniqlo

I’d go to Cos, Uniqlo or Arket for good quality basics.

runningfromreality · 18/08/2022 21:17

Unpopular opinion: Arket is just H and M (whom I love) at 4 times the cost

Mercurial123 · 19/08/2022 06:49

Agree I don't find Arket great quality. Uniqlo is hit and miss, Muji is better.

Otrium sell Reiss and other higher end high street brands at a discount. Also love COS. Marie Marot shirts are great, love the styling. Not sure of the customs duties to the UK as I'm overseas. They are a French brand I think they ship from Prague.
