What's the best way?
I'm currently using that thing thats advertised from JML. Sorry menopausal brain.
Are epilators better?
Thanks

Bloody expensive but laser hair removal was very effective.
I haven’t tried an epilator on facial hair but elsewhere it produced a lot of ingrowing hairs.

Your face has two kinds of hair on it: the fine thin stuff that’s hard to see and the thick dark wiry stuff like a man’s beard.

If a ‘fine’ hair gets stimulated too much, it’ll get triggered to grow thick wiry hair. Once it’s been triggered it never goes back.

Any form of pulling (like plucking) brings blood to the hair root area and actually stimulates the other hairs there too and can trigger them to start growing thick wiry hair instead of fine hair. So if you’re plucking a couple of stray hairs you may find more and more come in that area.

If you were born with some thick hair where you don’t want it, or just have thick leg hair, laser removal can work well. BUT if you have a hormone imbalance (eg PCOS or menopause) that’s triggering fine hairs to become wiry hairs, then laser can actually stimulate the area even more and make a lot more wiry hair grow . 🙈

If you have a lot of hair growth caused by hormone imbalance then the only real options are shaving twice a day or electrolysis. The latter destroys the hair root so it can’t grow back.

Thanks for the info, it's more the peach fuzz and moustache haha.
I guess I'll carry on with the thing I've already got (still can't remember the name!)

Thank you, I won't risk that then!

What is the research to suggest laser hair removal increases facial hair growth in women with certain conditions @Bluebells12?

MrsDrDear · 16/08/2022 21:37

I've been shaving my peach fuzz for around 7 years, once every couple of weeks.

It's still peach fuzz, not wiry, not thicker. I never pluck though. Just make sure razor is fresh and clean and use a good face foam.

I don't wear foundation or anything so my peach fuzz isn't really that noticeable.

My boyfriend bought me a Philips Lumea for my birthday and honestly it has worked a miracle. I no longer look like a member of ZZ Topp!

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 16/08/2022 21:46

I am having electrolysis now. It's £££. I have PCOS and after one Set Of 5 treatments, I've not noticed enough difference to feel its working. I am going to pay for 5 more, but, unless I see real improvement its so pricey I will have to stop. Sad

SlowingDownAndDown · 17/08/2022 11:12

@EineReiseDurchDieZeit
I had coarse dark facial hair following
amenorrhoea. Electrolysis wasn’t very effective. Laser treatment was.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 17/08/2022 12:16

I was disqualified medically for laser by the clinic sadly

kirinm · 17/08/2022 12:18

Laser has worked really well for me. It is expensive but effective from the first treatment.

Oouli · 17/08/2022 12:19

Laser removal and vaniqa cream has changed my life tbh. Pcos so lots of hair!
