Oh help me please - I cannot pay £45 for a cardigain

even tho it is just what I want - can I?

It's this one boden of course

The thing is my office is sometimes very warm and sometimes very cold, so I need to dress in light layers. I like 3/4 sleeves (I know some of you don't but humour me) and this cardi is nice because it is cotton not a heavy knit and has stretch too. Also V neck which is good (big norks). I would wear it over a s/s T or buttoned up over a vest.

I even like the colours (in fact cannot decide which colour) oo-er may need 2 - one in sensible brown (I had a Boden brown cotton cardi that I wore so much it fell apart) and one in (DS2's suggestion) bright green. To go with the mad Boden blue/green skirt (no not really).

Annnneeeway. Have browsed M&S/Next to no avail. Anyone seen something I might like but cheaper?

BHS had a lot of knitwear inthe sales.

questionpleasehelp · 20/01/2008 23:05

looked on site - now called coral

brimfull · 20/01/2008 23:07

laura ashley had some in the sale today I think

also saw some in debenhams

Clary · 20/01/2008 23:19

coral is lovely.

Really drawn to the brown and the green.

Looked in Laura ashley and saw a cashmere one I quite liked but I think it was even dearer than Boden

Right need to look in Debenhams and BHS.

primark and change the buttons.
i know it wont be the same quality, but you can have it in 10 colours for that price.

Clary · 20/01/2008 23:32

Is there a nice one in Primark tho? (agree re change the buttons).

I have looked in Sainsbury's and Asda (y'see I am not posh, no indeedy) but there's nothing I like. Just all swingy baggy things that are horrid on me.

No Primark here to test and no website alas

debenhams have some nice ones too. £20

Lotstodo · 21/01/2008 06:53

Hennes have got some nice cardigans - mostly neutral colours though but cheap and not bad quality

SilentTerror · 21/01/2008 12:39

Would be tempted to buy it tbh.I have my eye on the green too!
And £40 with discount really isn't it??!!!
IMO better to spend more on something you love than less on something you don't and won't wear as much.

Seasider · 21/01/2008 16:16

Uniqlo, good colour range and a bit cheaper too. Although do love a Boden cardy and am in fact Queen of Cardigans!

choosyfloosy · 21/01/2008 16:17

yes but primark will look awful after the second wash, IMO. all floppy and out of shape.

You don't need two, only one. Look! saved £45 already!

TsarChasm · 21/01/2008 16:20

Buy a cheaper one and change the buttons. It's the buttons that make it look a bit different.

IndigoViolet · 21/01/2008 16:23

I've got it. I wear it with a white vest top thing and black trousers. It's fab. Lots of people have said how much they like it.

Scampmum · 21/01/2008 16:28

Mum got me it for my birthday last year (Coral) - have had loads of compliments too. Stopped doing up over my bump a while back, though!

Piffle · 21/01/2008 16:32

clary we must never meet lol boden twins. Buy them they look fab. Not sure about the skirt on me though ha ha

Kammy · 21/01/2008 22:04

Try Uniqlo - on line if you can't get to Oxford Street. Unbelievably cheap amd nice quality.
Also look out at H&M - have had a couple of nice cardigans from there.

I'd buy it, I think it looks nice, and you'd get a lot of wear out of it.

bero · 21/01/2008 22:18

hm, sure it's very nice but that painfully thin model doesn't really show it off to its best advantage.

Do get it, though. Good cardis are IME worth the money. I badly need one but can't afford atm (no sympathy required or deserved, have made other nice purchases recently).

Clary · 21/01/2008 23:06

right OK ladies thanks for all that.

Will check out Hennes and Uniqlo (no shop here tho) and Debenhams then mayyybee buy the Boden one.

Piff but we have met! no IKWYM lol. Also the DDs would be a bit Boden-tastic I fear.

Indigoviolet what colour did you get might I ask?

moondog · 21/01/2008 23:08

Those cardigans are Frump Central. Also that thick cotton drags and goes shapeless.
I have learnt that buying loose fitting cardies is a crime against fashion.

Clary · 21/01/2008 23:10

moondog which cardies? Do you mean the Boden ones? (not loose-fitting, that's the point!)

OP posts:
moondog · 21/01/2008 23:17

The one you linked Clary.

I made a face at it in my catalogue last night.

So unflattering and shapeless.

Best cardies Boden did were sort of boiled wool little jacket affairs. Mine still looks ace about 7 years on
