Breast surgery - when did you go back to work

Hi there,

I’m considering a breast enlargement operation to correct a developmental issue I’ve had since I was a teenager. The silicone implants would be placed on top of the muscle and I’ll likely go up two cup sizes.

I would take a week off work but would need to go into the office at least two days on week two. I’d really rather not tell my line manager and colleagues. I’m hoping it won’t be too obvious as I usually wear very padded bras.

If anyone else has had the operation, were you able to go back to work after a week? Is it obvious you’ve just had an op/are wearing a surgical bra, or could it be easily hidden by wearing loose/dark clothing?

I had 2 weeks off, but only because I was a hairdresser and needed to use my arms.

You should be fine after a week but be prepared to be slightly sore and have limited arm movements. (Lifting them high)

Thank you, this is really helpful. Were the support bra/dressings very bulky? Just wondering whether it would really be obvious that I’ve had surgery or whether I could cover it up easily with clothes. I’d likely have the surgery during the winter which should help..

No the dressings were literally like plasters over the small scars. And it was a normal front fasten sports bra. No one would of known.

I had 4 weeks off, I had mine done on the NHS as I had very tiny boobs, I had drains in for a week, then when that was OK I was sent home, and had the further 3 weeks off. My job was heavy lifting so was told not to go back till then.
