Awful looking - what can help?

Hi,
I'm a really unattractive person, always have been. My face is awful and I cannot stand to look in the mirror unless necessary.
A couple of years ago I stopped colouring my hair or doing much with it as I didn't see the point. I'm in my late thirties and am wondering if anything can distract attention away from my face. I've thought about wearing glasses but I just feel more self conscious.

Thinking about booking in for a cut and colour. Do you think a good haircut makes a difference or am I just wasting money because I'll just look like crap whatever?

Also considering getting my eyebrows done (possibly microblading) as I don't do anything with them currently, they are just there.

Sorry for the waffley post but I guess I'm asking what makes you look better and makes the most difference for you? Any suggestions to detract people's attention from my face?

Thanks

I would bet significant amounts of money that you are not unattractive, certainly not to the extent you say.

For one thing, I've never ever walked past a person and thought "hideous!". Definitely never thought "hideous, what an unfortunate bone structure!"

Care to post a photo so we can help?

Exactly this. You are not unattractive I'm sure. Would you post a pic with eyes blanked out or something so we can compliment you?

I think its about a good hair cut and clothes that fit well. For me its also a good colour, the right make up and support underwear!
I'm having a midlife thing, I've gained a couple of stone and feel crap. My ideal size for me is a size 14 (I don't need to be skinny to look good) so I'm determined to get back there with healthy eating and exercise by Christmas.

Have a nice well proportioned body, nice clothes and hair, and forget about it. Nobody really cares except you You are known for your personality

I bet you aren't ugly.

Take biotin for skin, hair and nails.
Simple but stylish haircut (and colour if you like to).
Lots of water.
Eat to nourish your body not just fill it up.
Simple, regular skincare. Vitamin C products give glow.
SPF.
Sort your eyebrows.
I'm low maintenance in nearly everything, but absolutely swear by having an eyelash tint and lift. Amazing difference to the face.

Sounds trite - but smile and live your precious life. There's only one of you in the existence of the universe!

I don't agree that you need to be slim to be good looking. I know loads of overweight stunning women.

I agree. But in honesty, they generally have other very attractive features, lovely faces, great hair, an excellent wardrobe of well fitting clothes.
An ordinary or less attractive looking woman will generally find it easier to look good if she is slim, as its easier to dress for one thing.

I bet there's absolutely nothing unattractive about your face! A lot of looking good is just grooming - everyone can look better with grooming. Look at the difference in celebrities as they get more polished - early Spice Girls Victoria Beckham vs now, or Cheryl Cole at the beginning of her career. Normal average looking girls who through the power of grooming now look amazing. (And weight loss, not that they were fat to start with but they both definitely lost weight when they hit the big time.) Give your appearance a bit of TLC, whether that's a hair cut and brow tint or whether you want to focus on clothes or makeup or whatever. I agree with the pp who said if your clothes are stylish and interesting then no one will be looking at your face. Don't dress to blend into the background.

Great advice here. I love plaiting my hair in interesting ways to feel good and alter my appearance a little. You can learn very easily on Youtube and once you know the basic plaits you can make your hair look lovely which people seem to really like; I get lots of compliments on my plaits! Which always gives me a little boost.

You say that you can't change your bones but you can. Have you thought about having a consultation with a surgeon that does mentoplasty?

I have health issues currently but when I am well I am going to have some bone shaved off my chin.

Years ago a dentist offered me Tx on the NHS and I wish I had done it but I wasn't in a very good place.

Look into it. It might revolutionise the way you feel.

I too don’t believe anyone looks bad. We just neglect ourselves as life gets in the way or we lose ourselves. Maintenance is key and people often do more than we expect. Absolutely yes to the haircut and microblading. I thought I had amazing eyebrows and could get my own hair but now I never do again. Even just straight along the bottom is way better professionally as they can take out the bulkiness or add it where needed etc. Highlights always help me and they don’t have to be drastic. Mine are very natural but my hair always looks done even on scruffy days with some highlights.
