Hair dye removal advice needed

PollyMorph · 15/08/2022 17:19

My teenager has dyed her hair purple using Live permanent hair dye, it needs to be a natural colour for when she goes back to school. It will need to be dyed back to brown but we need to strip the purple first- can anyone advise on how I can do this at home without bleaching it as she has naturally dark brown hair. TIA

Do you need to remove the purple? Can’t she just dye it brown over the top? If it’s a relatively dark shade it should be fine.

You can get colourB4 and such, which remove permanent colours but I’ve found they leave my hair in bad condition so would avoid unless you want to go lighter

I would just put a dale brown on top, she may have a radish shine to it but as pp colourb4 wrecks your hair

Dark

Reddish

Not doing very well here

Use the original head and shoulders to get it out. My DD sits with it on the hair and under a shower cap for an hour or so.

Dandruff shampoo + Crushed Vit C tablets ( I used about 20 on short hair - do them in a food pro so they aren't gritty)
I shifted a Mahogany (purple) dye from my mid brown hair but the dye was a semi-permenant .

It can dry the hair though.
I think going over with a dark dye would be your best bet but do a Strand Test !

Did she bleach/lighten her hair before the purple ?

I used Superdrug Colour Rewind to remove dark brown colouring. It did really lighten my hair and had no disastrous effect on its condition. Might make it easier to apply a darker colour.
It smells a bit of sulphur for a few washes too.

I wouldn't strip it, it really ruins your hair. Just pop a Ash brown hair dye on top

I wouldn't strip either.

Purple / reds are very stubborn to get out. And stripping with the at home lots are worse than home bleach kits. They absolutely wreck your hair.

Original head and shoulders can shift some of it.

Just dye her hair again with a dark brown. The most she will have is a reddish tinge in some lights. Don't strip at home - my sisters hair snapped off when removing a blue / black on her naturally brown hair, with the at home dye strippers. Had it chopped to a short bob and the rest was so dry for months.

Just dye over the top. Or get it stripped out at a salon.
