I had my daughter 6 weeks ago and feel like I have absolutely nothing to wear that fits. I’ve mostly been at home recover from c-section etc and wearing nursing vests and some stretchy pyjama like shorts but I wouldn’t even want to wear that for a walk around the neighbourhood much less out to lunch or shopping. I weigh about the same as pre-pregnancy (thanks to GD and giving up sugar) but my stomach is so much bigger so none of my usual summer wardrobe (consisting of shorts and skirts) fits, even the ones with elastic waists. Also not big enough for my summer maternity clothes (a few over the bump shorts and a couple of dresses that now look unflattering). I literally have about two loose fitting dresses from before that I can actually wear for going out somewhere. What did others do in this situation? Do I buy new clothes now with summer mostly gone or muddle through until Autumn when I can at least wear some stretchy leggings or something?

Maybe a shirt dress with a belt which you can tighten later, and wear with leggings/tights in the autumn?

I bought some dresses that are deisgned to be worn slightly looser/have a drawstring waist. If they're drawstring, you can tighten them if they're too loose around your tummy area.

Ones like this: www2.hm.com/en_gb/productpage.1044182004.html

I hear you, OP. This was me six weeks ago - nothing fitted. Not even my pregnancy clothes seemed right.

I bit the bullet and bought some new clothes. 12 weeks in and I’m still nowhere near fitting into my old clothes (though I am losing weight). Your stomach will go down, I promise. Even in the last two weeks mine has gone down a lot.

I bought:
2 x drawstring light trousers
several breastfeeding tops from H&M
a couple of nursing dresses from H&M and Boob in the sale and
Some loose t shirts to go over the breastfeeding vests.

Most of the above can be worn with a cardi/jumper/tights if it gets colder.

I found it really disconcerting not to have anything to wear but the above has kept me going. It’s not as good as my usual wardrobe but I don’t need to spend half an hour every morning worrying about what to wear.

Thanks all for the great suggestions!

I found dresses great and versatile. Especially now coming into autumn you can wear nice casual dresses with tights and boots but wear them now with sandals . I was always similar to you OP and never put up massive amounts of weight but had a very different body shape afterwards. Also I would say buy some nice new undies as well. If you enjoy walking buy a nice flattering pair of sports leggings and a few T-shirts that suit your new shape and you can wear them out and about walking and for casual wear. It's well worth investing in a few new bits if you can as you will feel a billion times better in clothes that fit and flatter your shape.
