How often do you have gel nail polish removed and re applied at the salon? Had mine done for holidays for first time, but reading that it should really be every too weeks, it's a costly business! Does everyone do this? You're talking £50+ a month!

Plus, if I do treat myself to one more polish before autumn, inspire me with your colours! Have had a french polish but fancy some colour.

Once every payday. I’d prefer every 2 weeks because my nails get too long and I don’t like the regrowth, but it’s too much £ in a month.

Justkoko I have a small area of onycholysis on one nail (the middle one - hopefully the picture attached). I slammed my fingertip in a doorway many years ago and the nail is permanently raised now. Gel polish doesn't affect it any more than a normal nail - I'm not sure why it would?

I've had this colour on just under a week.

Would anyone be able to share a picture of the regrowth after 2+ weeks? I've only had gels done twice and loved them but at about the 12 day point they had to come off as the gap at the nail base looked awful to me, maybe I was being too picky but can't imagine going 4 weeks. I don't have long nail beds though so that may have something to do with it.

Normally I do regular polish while I'm in virtual meetings so I have time and opportunity (while I'm sitting there anyway!) to redo every few days. Don't think I could justify the cost for regular gels as lovely as it would be.

Every 4 weeks. £22 for plain colour, £26 for nail art. My lady is an absolute gem.

I am in Essex... and I have mine done for £10 a time. A lovely lady who comes home and as it's a steal I change them all the time! Xx pinks usually

£10 Shock I thought I was getting a good deal at £18 with nail art. Hope you break out the good biscuits for her.

£10 is a bargain! I’m also in Essex and pay £35 including removal. I get mine done every 2-3 weeks. It’s expensive but it makes me feel so put together and I’d never get the chance to do it myself at home that I don’t mind paying for it as my treat (and I have a toddler and a busy job so I don’t go out very often these days!)

I get the dipping powder- it's a supposedly healthier version of gel- on my natural nails. £28 every 3 weeks due to growing out.

I started getting Onycholysis, when the nail separates from the nail bed, when I used uv gel nail vanish. Anyone else get this?

Yes. Me too. I posted a little earlier upthread. It is only just getting better now, a couple of months after I stopped using the gels. I wasn't sure if gels/the lamp were definitely what caused it but it must have been. One nail nearly lifted right off at one point!

Ietthemeatcake · 31/08/2022 07:20

I have done my own gel (Sensationail) and that only lasts about a week. I've had Shellac done in a salon and it does about 2 weeks before I start to pick at it or it lifts. I have now started having the BIAB gel and my natural nails have never been this long. I bit them for years and they always break.
I get the gel infilled every 4 weeks so that's affordable I think. It's £25 - 30 depending on the design I have. This is it after 3 weeks. I like these designs as the regrowth is less obvious. This shape is better for me too, if I have something more square I tend to nibble the corners.
