Will the cost of living crisis stop you buying premium beauty brands?

Just wondering whether brands like Nars or Trinny London will suffer, or whether people will still spend up to £40 on a tinted moisturiser?

Of course it depends on your individual financial situation but I think many of us are going to notice inflation in one way or another. Often these sorts of items are seen as treats.

I'd probably prefer to cut out something else to make sure I can have my favourite products but it might stop me randomly experimenting with new stuff (rather sticking to tried and tested and something I know I will use up completely).

I'll stick to Trinny tinted moisturiser, it's the only make up I've continued to buy over and over - Lasts for ages. I'd like to continue the cleansing balm but realise it's an extravagance so will hopefully, find a reasonable dupe that doesn't set my rosacea off. I also subscribe to Skin and Me but again that lasts for ages so may change my subscription to once every three months. I bought Aldi mascara for 3.99 and it's great so a keeper if they have it in stock next time I'm in I'll buy another.

Hi Perime can you change your subscription? I have this and assumed it was only monthly ... I've found that since skipping a few nights a week in the summer to apply self tan not only is mine also lasting ages but I've actually not even started the August tube! I know you can pause a week for a new tube but if I can change it to alternate months for now that would be ace

Once I had decided that I was going to retire I looked at where I could cut costs beauty/clothes wise. I've always had a love for a charity shop and thanks to another thread on MN have discovered some good ones near me where I have picked up some bargains so will continue with that. Also I've cut down substantially on having a Primark haul or loads of sale impulse buys and am looking at my wardrobe and only buying what I really need or replacing old stuff.

Beautywise I discovered Aldi skincare and won't in all honesty go back to paying a lot. The only thing is that Aldi have a tendency to discontinue things - the Q10 serum springs to mind - so I'm going to try the Lidl Q10 serum next. Their hot cloth cleanser is excellent as well, and I have always bought Garnier Micellar Water rather than anything more expensive. Lidl make up remover pads are better than anything else I've tried and are only 46p for 100.

Hair wise I've changed my hairdresser. The new one is a bit more expensive but has had a different approach to my colour/cut and is far better which means I now only go every 8-10 weeks rather than every 4 as previously. I've also used Herbal Essences Colour Protect shampoo/conditioner for years rather than anything dearer.

The only things I will not give up on are Clinique City Block, All about Eyes eye cream and Clinique mascara (High Impact or Lash Power). Luckily all of these last a while so it's not as if I'm buying them frequently. Recently at Gatwick I picked up a travel pack of the High Impact mascara which had 3 for £36 which will last me for the next 6-9 months at least. I've figured the savings I am making elsewhere will enable me to carry on buying these products.

Perime I used to have rosacea and I found the best thing to cleanse with was a plain unscented oil and muslin cloth. Grapeseed or, if I’m feeling more extravagant, jojoba. But really the £4 bottle of grapeseed works just as well.

Doesn’t have the heavenly scent of the Emma Hardie balm I used to splash out on, but is very soothing and effective.

I'll give that a try - thank you!

Yes, you can delay your next doser for 4 weeks. I do this until I know I'm running low and need some more. You do it in manage subscriptions.

Yup. I have swapped Clinique for Nivea. Much cheaper and OK.

I’ve been sucked into brands of late, but I’m using up my stash and going back to basics.

I hardly ever use my hairdryer. I let it dry naturally and my hairdresser always comments on the great condition of my hair. This winter I’m going to do another keratin treatment, and I do it myself, saving £100 a time.

I’m a massive fan of oil. I hear up a base oil e.g. jojoba and add a few drops of essential, and paint it on my hair, wrap in a towel.

I also take vit E oil (sometimes break a Vit E capsule) add a few drops of Lavender oil and massage into my face. My skin looks great for days afterwards.

I used to be into aromatherapy and use oils everywhere. Cleanse, hair, nails and diffuse essential oils in the house.
