Under boob skin tags

Thighdentitycrisis · 13/08/2022 22:43

I have several small skin tags in the area below my cleavage. I’m mid fifties, is this an age thing caused by gravity? I think it’s where my bra sits and it feels like grains the size of couscous. Anyone else had these and got rid of them?

i've had them removed with electrolysis, i'm sure there are other treatments available now.
but popped on to say they are linked to infrequent bra and or necklace washing (in the case of the neck region) and a virus similar to warts.
so changing the bra more often and washing it frequently will help going forward.

Haggisfish3 · 13/08/2022 23:00

They are more often caused by friction, so where bra rubs, under arms etc. there is a very small link between them and pre diabetes so might be worth having a blood glucose test. I got rid of mine at gp by saying they run and bleed. Gp snipped them off.

BazingaBaby · 13/08/2022 23:05

Skin tags are caused by friction often, not so much by lack of cleanliness or not washing your bra or necklace. At least according to the NHS, you can buy little kits to pop a band around them, they then drop off after a day or two completely painlessly. Plenty of people get them so don't worry, obvs if they're very painful or causing issues then get them checked before trying anything to remove them.

HPV type of virus.

BazingaBaby · 13/08/2022 23:17

Yep, that article says rubbing is most likely the cause. 'Some studies' show HPV is also present, that doesn't mean it causes them. And nowhere there does it say anything about not washing enough.

Washing bras more frequently in hotter water helps. Honestly this isn’t rocket science. Most women wash their bras less than weekly yet they wear them several hours a day. I believe on average women have been found to wash them every 6 weeks.

BazingaBaby · 14/08/2022 00:13

I'm not struggling with the idea of washing, just pointing out that skin tags aren't due to a cleanliness issue.

itsnotmeitsu · 14/08/2022 01:31

As BazingaBaby says, there are kits you can buy that remove the skin tags. I had a large one on my arm and a couple on my neck that I got rid of easily. I try and avoid wearing a bra if I can help it, but if I feel the need I use an anti-chafing cream where the strap will rub. Never had a problem since. I can't imagine how not washing a bra could cause a skin tag.

Thighdentitycrisis · 14/08/2022 09:18

Thanks for all the replies and variety of opinions. I fell asleep before I could answer!

I wash and change my bras frequently so I’m more inclined towards the friction hypothesis.
I think I will look into the kits, does anyone know if it’s safe to remove the darker tags? Ie are they tags or moles?

Bull shit average 6 weeks.
Nobody wears bras without washing for 6 weeks never mind longer if that's meant to be an average.

Sheepreallylikerichteabiscuits · 14/08/2022 11:08

I get these, have done for years, on mu neck, under my arms etc. I know its not supposed to be genetic but my mother and grandmother both got them too, so it seems like we have a pre disposition towards them (and yes I wash my bras frequently 🙄)

If they are very small I don't bother with removal kits I just use my nail. I pinch really hard at the base of the skin tag. You are trying to cut off the blood supply. Then it turns black and falls off. Its not particularly painful and it generally works although on slightly bigger ones I have had to do it a couple of times.

Not GP approved but has been working for me for 20 years!

Really??????

Maybe I'm in the
Minority but I wear a clean bra and pants every day

Isn't that what people do

Yuck 🤢 how grim!!!!!! Bra's are right near sweat glands in the armpits and pants - well I won't explain the obvious!!!!!!!

But thats made me feel icky thinking about it

MermaidMeemaw · 14/08/2022 15:08

My DH had 3 skin tags on the upper part of his body(He is slim, very clean and a bit of a wimp🤣). I tied some cotton around them and put clear nail vanish on them. I tightened the thread after a day. Took less than 48 to fall off. They haven’t returned.

This is not correct. Skin tags are as a result of friction. That’s all. Which is why women get them under their boobs, or people in general can get them in the folds of their neck.
Also, electrolysis only destroys hair follicles. Skin tags can be cauterised or frozen off.

fallfallfall · 14/08/2022 15:31

@Soontobe60 my electrolysis tech is certified to use her machine to cauterize skin tags.
like it or not my dermatologist is who mentioned the viral link and the bra/necklace frequent wash and the 6 gp’s in town must have all attended the same seminar as they as well repeat the same mantra when asked about skin tags.
but if no one wants to believe that fine. I guess the notion of washing bras more frequently is a controversial issue on mn.

BazingaBaby · 15/08/2022 08:45

@fallfallfall I'm not sure why you're insisting on repeating the wrong information when presented with reasonable explanation on how these occur? And I'm pretty sure no one here has had issue with washing their bras, in fact most have said they wash theirs much more often than your suspected 'average'?

@Thighdentitycrisis I hope you find something that works for you! They're super annoying especially when under your boob!

CosmopolitanPlease · 15/08/2022 08:53

I've had these, I snip them off with nail clippers. Painless.

KangarooKenny · 15/08/2022 08:57

I wash my bra every day and I’ve still got a few. I’m fairly sure I’ve seen that they increase in peri menopause.

MistyRock · 15/08/2022 11:03

I tie cotton around them then wait for them to die and drop off. I've never heard that they are a type of wart!

GettingStuffed · 15/08/2022 11:20

I find they fall off by themselbes, only for more to occur
