Anyone had breast reduction surgery?

I have wanted to do this for years and years. I’ve reached a point where I can soon afford it and I need to start seriously researching. But I’m quite scared! Has anyone on here done it?

I’m in my early 40s and my bust is a size 32G, and I have constant shoulder dints from the only bras that alleviate my back pain. Except that the bra lines and the shoulder ache give me a different sort of back pain. And my posture is rubbish.

I dream of wearing no bra!

I’m not even sure how drastic of a cup size change I can go… I’d quite want to go all the way down to a B!

Any stories would be so appreciated! How long was recovery? Are you happy with how they feel? If you had back pain, is it gone?!

i had a mastopexy at the age of 60. it really wasn't a difficult decision at this point (just costly as i paid for it myself) the recovery was uneventful.

Hi, yes - I had one in February this year. I’m not in the UK though - not sure if that makes a difference. I was a 36 J and I’m now a DD. I wish I had asked for an even smaller size but overall, I’m happy with them and they suit my frame much better.

Recovery was pretty good. I actually went out on a staff night out 2 weeks after the op (with a gentle, soft night bra) and felt ok. I didn’t have a drain though so I’m not sure if that makes a difference.

The worst part about it was having to sleep on my back for a while - although initially I was so tired afterwards that I was able to fall asleep. I was warned I might lose feelings in my nipples, which happened, but actually think sensations are slowly beginning to come back now. Happy with the scarring.

And yes - I’ve noticed a definite improvement in back pain. Still have bra strap ‘ridges’ but Im wondering if this is from the years of carrying round a load. Im ok with this. Im 47 just FYI .

i would definitely recommend.

Thank you both! How long would you say it took to recover enough to go swimming / gentle exercise? And how long for cardio?

@Bustq i was able to go for serious walks after two weeks but my surgeon requested I keep my heart rate below 120. Prior to the two week mark I was wearing a tensor bandage.
hard to describe how long it was a natural progression. Slightly more each day while keeping in mind scar formation and scar healing. Swimming I’m sure was the last thing I did as you really don’t want infection.
my incision line went from the center of my armpit all the way across my front bar 4 inches in the middle to the next armpit then from that line up each breast and around each nipple.
I was active but cautious, bike riding using legs would be much better than running.

Recently requested via NHS. I was told by GP that before I could even be referred I'd need to maintain healthy bmi for a year. I'm about 1.5 stone off that, a lot of it is 38H boobs. I have done a lot of research, feel it would benefit me (osteoarthritis in my neck, long-standing back problems), but shelved for now as I can't justify the cost privately. I don't currently have a lot of faith in myself to lose the weight. Good luck!

I did, last December. I went from a 38GG to a 36 D/DD. They suit my frame but I actually wish I had gone smaller.

Best money I ever spent. I had drains and an anchor stitch. Scars are already fading, nipple sensation has returned, and I am so pleased. No more back pain and can go braless for the first time in forever.

Do it!

I FELT like I could have gone running approximately 3 months after but I was worried about mucking it all up so I waited a bit longer and only recently started up again. It was easy - and I felt confident about it. Same with swimming. Honestly, I am so happy about it.

I had a reduction about 30 years ago. The recovery was pretty rough as one of my wounds got infected, but that won't happen to everyone.

What I will say, if you do go ahead, be extra careful not to put any weight on. I have always struggled with my weight and as soon as it increased, so did my boobs. They are now pretty much back to where they were all those years ago.

Takemebacktothenorth · 11/08/2022 12:20

I had one when I was 20, so 18 years a go now!

Went from a 34 EE to a 34B/C, although now more a C/D. I was very happy, but they take a while to sort of relax into shape. Mine initially looked a bit fake and hard, but after 6 months or so, they were much more natural looking.

Down sides were scaring - mine is more noticeable on one side - and also nipple sensation loss. It's come back a bit, but not much.

Recovery time was reasonably quick. I remember feeling a little sore and having my dressings changed a lot, which isn't very nice 😬 but it really wasn't bad.

Good luck! 🙂
