Bikini Wax

Waxing question... I've only been for a bikini wax once and it was a disaster. Basically I'm a jumpy person (like really jumpy) so holding my skin taut was really hard for me and the waxer got stressed so we sacked it off.

This was 15 years ago now but I'm still a jumpy cow (it's not the pain I just anticipate and flinch). Is it worth retrying a wax? Do you have to hold the skin yourself is this the norm? Should I just stick to shaving 🙈

I want to know if I need to trim the hair and if so how short? I'm a wuss too

I'm no use with hair length, I think if it's particularly long you may have to but I'm definitely no expert.

OP, I’ve been “all off” for many years. if you are having a hot wax and explain everything to the beautician in a similar way to your post, l think you will be fine. There should also be no need for you to stretch your own skin.

l would suggest taking a couple of paracetamol beforehand. The first time is the worst but l think on this occasion, it’s a case of you having another first time.

Your previous experience does not sound as if you were looked after very well. Go along with a quarter to half an inch of hair for them to work on but not a forest.

Avoid tight jeans etc immediately afterwards. I often wear a loose long skirt and leave my knickers off.

This may sound a faff, but the end result is smooth and if you go for a full Hollywood you will certainly find it less sweaty and more comfortable in the hot weather.

Also see if you can find somewhere that specialises in intimate waxing. I’m terrible having a wax and like you, flinching etc. Bit the bullet recently and went to a specialist and it was so much better, she had seen it all before and I got a great result.

To add that after the first couple of times it will seem like a walk in the park.

Whatever you do make sure it's a hot wax like Lycon. Makes a world of difference. I never have to hold my skin, the beautician just gets me to bend my legs in such a way that the skin is taut enough (if that makes sense!).

Second a PP above that it's best to go to a place specialising in intimate wax, they are generally so much quicker and less painful at whipping it all off!

Oh and I usually trim with scissors beforehand when I haven't been for a while but there's probably no need.

Thanks all such good advice, I've booked in with an experienced waxer in a couple of weeks, hopefully I'll be back with a positive experience 🤞
