If you use a shampoo bar what sort do you use? Do you use conditioner as well?

Thanks in advance 😊

Gruum have a deal where you can send a free set (face, body and hair bar I think) to a friend and you just pay postage. I presume you could send it to yourself?

I use tropics bars, my hair is more controlled and healthy looking.

You don't need to send it to a friend, just pay p and p plus you get a fiver off your next order if you like it.

Mine's on its way 😊

Greenfrog Botanics shampoo bars are amazing. Smell devine and best of all shiny frizz free hair. I don’t need to use conditioner after it either. I’ve tried garnier and gruum but found both left my hair feeling dry. Neither compared to the Greenfrog ones.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 09/08/2022 10:07

Washed again this morning and didn't use the milkshake conditioner just a bit of hair oil- big mistake! It's really dry, definitely need lots of conditioner, still feels lovely and clean though.

@Thestrongestavenger I had a look at greenfrog and I have to admit I was a bit surprised they were using MI in their conditioner but am going to try the shampoo bar as my hair is really dry.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 09/08/2022 12:46

What's MI?

Methylisothiazolinone. Awful preservative that about 20% of the population are allergic to. I think the EU were looking to ban it.

It's in a lot of cosmetics/washing liquid/shampoos etc even brands like Clarins and gives you a hideous rash if you are allergic.

Another vote for Gruum here. I searched for a good shampoo bar for years. I have really thick hair that all precious bars made clumpy, sticky or didn’t wash properly. Finally found Gruum. It's amazing. All the family will use it too!
Normally DD and I share the conditioning one and DS and DH share the anti-dandruff one but we just took the anti-D one on holiday and we all used that. Not sure we could tell the difference.
it lasts a lot longer than I thought. Have purchased 3 times now and only ever paid £5.
We have the conditioner bar and it’s ok but not amazing. Also bought the face sun cream and it’s horrible - really greasy.

Another vote for Grüum here.

Tubbyinthehottub · 09/08/2022 20:56

The Gruum one lathers well but it irritated my scalp Sad

greyinganddecaying · 10/08/2022 21:40

It might depend on the kind of water you have too. Hard water areas mean that it's harder to get a lather up IME.

dolphinsarentcommon · 11/08/2022 07:22

I ordered a pay for post only one from Gruum and tried it yesterday

Lathered so much better than I expected and my hair was literally squeaky clean. I didn't use conditioner and hair felt lovely.

So far so good

LaCerbiatta · 11/08/2022 07:38

Does anyone else find that you only really use the first half of a shampoo bar? The last half just breaks into small bits and then is impossible to use? I've tried a fre different ones so far, garnier, lush and another brand I can't remember the name of.

TheVanguardSix · 11/08/2022 11:06

LaCerbiatta That's why I rate the Alberto Balsam one... it's the only shampoo bar that remained intact until its end. And it lasted ages. And! It lathered beautifully and was kind to my very fussy, dry, middle-aged, porous, frizzy hair. Of all the shampoo bars I've used, it's the one I've really loved.
Admittedly, I haven't used Gruum. But if you're on a budget, try the Alberto Balsam one, and if it's not to your liking, at least it's not money down the drain.* *

JaninaDuszejko · 15/08/2022 21:30

I use the Grüum because unlike the others I tried it didn't fall apart.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 12/09/2022 10:18

UPDATE-
I ended up throwing the Alberto Balsam one away as it really irritated my scalp.

I used the Gruum one this morning and it felt nice lathering up and my hair feels nice after drying. So far,so good.

I had to use conditioner and glad I did as it does feel slightly drier than it normal does.

Lush New. Makes your hair really bouncy and lathers up properly

InsertPunHere · 12/09/2022 10:58

I found the Gruum bar made my hair much dryer than ordinary shampoo.

canyouextrapol · 12/09/2022 11:02

I love the grumm ones. First conditioner bar that I've got one with too.

RoseMartha · 12/09/2022 11:05

Faith in nature coconut is my favourite although the garnier honey one is quite nice.
i have conditioners I need to use up so I just use one of those.

I also use body shop refillable shampoo and conditioners.

If I get on with the shampoo bar I'll order a conditioner bar too.

I use Soaps for Little Suds soapsforlittlesuds.co.uk/ which are gorgeous. Also use their liquid conditioner (I like Jamaican Black Castor Oil) and an occasional Hair Treatment Mask

ThorsBedazzler · 12/09/2022 11:11

I use ethique.

I started off with one of their travel/trial sets which was 5 wee heart shaped bars (2x shampoo different types, 2x conditioner different types, 1x face scrub) which was about £12. The shampoo lasted almost 3 weeks, conditioner longer. It was a good way of trialling the different products and I've bought the packs a couple of times.

I then signed up for loyalty points and they basically threw points at me. Works out fairly economical!

The packaging is also entirely cardboard and recyclable which I like.
