Shirt steamer

Does anyone use a handheld steamer to steam shirts.

My DH usually has his shirts laundered but we're planning to stop this to save on finances.

I'd would also use it to steam DD uniform when she starts school in September. We got some hand me down uniform and the non iron shirts are so much better from when I was at school but the little summer shirt dresses would ideally need a quick steam.

I hate ironing plus our house is small and it's a faff to get the ironing board out as it blocks off the kitchen - hoping a quick steam would be sufficient.

Reviews online vary and also they say it needs filled frequently with water.

Weekly
5 mens work shirts
School dresses / shirts

Any advice much appreciated as I hate buying things that don't do the job you want and being stuck with it!

Watching! I am desperate for one but so many mixed reviews don’t know where to start

That's how I feel.

Quite confusing using the comparisons as how to balance them out & I'm getting myself in a muddle 😂

  • steam time
  • steam output
  • water tank

I thought I'd found the one as it had higher steam output but the steam time was only 6 minutes.

I went into my local department store during the week and they only had one model as all the others had sold out as so popular

Lakeland only had one and when I looked online the reviews were good but all dated 2019 so I'm wondering if there's more up to date models out there...

Aggghhhhh

I know. I’ve read loads of reviews for certain ones that are great then others say it’s rubbish! Hopefully someone will come along with recommendations 😊

I have one from Argos - cost about £25 - and have to say I’m really pleased with it. Light usage only though it is our replacement for all ironing! DH loves it too and asked why we didn’t get one years ago!

I use the Phillips one and it's completely replaced my ironing. You do have to fill it up frequently but you can usually do a shirt or a few kids items on one full reservoir.

Another vote for the Philips 3000 series - I use it instead of ironing. It’s foldable too so handy to travel with, should you also have a penchant for impractical linen trousers 😄

I've got one from Amazon for about £30 and it's great for doing quick jobs and I'll use it just before I'm wearing a garment.

If I was doing 5 shirts at a time though I'd prefer to use an ironing board to give them a proper press. I've got a steam generator iron and it takes a while to heat up but much better for doing bulk jobs.

Sorry that's possibly no help.

Great thank you.

It's for DH shirts and DD starts school in September so for her shirts and those summer dresses. Although I bought it some shirts in a PTA sale which are non iron and I'm shocked how non crumpled they came out of the wash and I could get away without ironing.

DH is concerned about how the steamer works on the shirt collars. Any opinions...

You can press the plate down on your fabric like a normal iron and use it horizontally. I tend to do it like this on my bed when I'm using it. If I've got something with lots of gathers like a dress I might do it on it's hanger vertically.

A friend who runs a clothes shop swears by this one. No personal experience, but her clothes on display always look perfect.

When my ex had to wear a suit to work I bought a steamer - just for the suit though - I never had much luck with shirts, ironing was much better/faster.

I tried a whole range of shirts - expensive/cheap/thick/thin/easy-iron/poly/cotton - and it was never a brilliant result.

for the Wool suit though - wow, fantastic. And I had some good results just lightly de-creasing my stuff.

I don't even own an iron or ironing board anymore! Handheld steamer all the way- we just have one from Amazon and does the job great! I upgraded to a full length one and it was rubbish and got returned
