😳
I have finally admitted to myself that none of my shoes are comfortable, couldn't work out why as no visible swelling, no particular change in activity, etc. Problems with big toenail starting to Ingrow, generally unhappy feet.
I measured myself with the shoe guage I bought for the kids in lock down and it seems to be because I have gone up a shoe size!
Late 40s, in perimenopause, overweight but losing slowly.
Is it just me?

Mine grew after having children even though I'm the same weight.. So annoying, but any significant weight gain can do it too.

I am going to have to buy new shoes. I definitely won't be replacing the 14 (ahem) pairs I now have on Vinted like-for-like as I can't afford to, I will have to be a lot more selective and have fewer pairs 😭

Hi there,

I just happened to see this and wanted to mention an illness called acromegaly. It is caused by excessive growth hormone produced in the pituitary gland.
Acromegaly can cause a wide range of symptoms, which tend to develop very slowly over time.
Early symptoms include:

  • swollen hands and feet – you may notice a change in your ring or shoe size
  • tiredness and difficulty sleeping, and sometimes sleep apnea.
  • gradual changes in your facial features, such as your brow, lower jaw and nose getting larger, or your teeth becoming more widely spaced
  • numbness and weakness in your hands, caused by a compressed nerve.
  • periods becoming irregular
  • fatigue
  • aching joints
If you have these symptoms you want to see an endocrinologist and have your IGF1 levels checked. It’s probably not this. Acromegaly is a rare disease. Unfortunately that doesn’t mean it doesn’t happen. It’s worth checking if you have any concerns. The earlier it is caught the more likely it is to be curable!

@JosiePosie89snap! a very old thread. I wonder what happened. I mentioned acromegaly very early on but noone commented on it.

Remember that £100 Sunak gave us after the lockdowns to go out and spend, I wanted a sensible pair of court shoes. Shoe shops were obviously having huge sales - happy days. I have been between a 4 and a five all my life - depends on style. I found a pair I liked, tried the 5's - massive, tried the 4's , two big - I ended up with a 3 !!!!

Now I found I cant automatically reach for a size, In the past four years Ive bought in 3.5. up to a 6

Get checked for acromegaly. Very rare but also very treatable.

Was going to say this.
what about your hands/nose/ear lobes.
My feet grew a little after pregnancy which is assume was due to ligaments loosening but I would venture a whole size out of the blue is a little unusual and certainly if they continue to grow I’d not ignore it.
