Best fake/gradual tan to take on holiday?

Justkoko · 29/07/2022 19:31

That's going to be easy to apply and keep a glow. Daily gradual tan like dove or nivea or something like a tanning foam?
I'm very pale so only need something medium at most. Have tried dove gradual and the medium dark seems pretty good.

Try Boots No 7 Gradual Tan , it costs about £9.99 and they have a couple of shades to choose from . Smells ok too.

Justkoko · 29/07/2022 19:55

Is it easy to use, ie not sticky for ages after applying and washes out of clothes/sheets? I'm thinking of transfer after applying.

Bondi Sands Pure gradual is great. It’s clear, but I apply with a mitt and don’t get streaks. There’s no transfer to clothes or bedding, and no smell.

Justkoko · 29/07/2022 21:58

Oo have just looked that one up @MsDastardley and I may try it. Do you think youd put it on daily on holiday or just every 2 or 3 days?
Have had bondi before and thought it was a good colour.

I used Bondi Sands for years & was very pleased with it. I had the foam that you apply and then wash off after a few hours. More recently I bought 2 items from the 'pure' range and I wasn't at all impressed. The Drops have barely showed up despite adding more & more to moisturizer as directed. The foam was more effective but terribly patchy. I applied in the same way I have always applied the older version but the results were awful.

Interesting thread!
Does the Bondi Sands one smell of "biscuit"?

RampantIvy · 29/07/2022 22:13

Dove

Yes, all the ones I've tried do. Maybe not initially but definitely as it develops

Justkoko · 30/07/2022 01:01

Bondi foam smells coconutty.
Ah heck, not sure what to do. There'll be sunlotion and chlorine or saltwater daily. Just keeping golden is the aim as I prefer the shade and don't tan anyway!
Stick with the old dove or treat myself to a new one?

I love the st tropez gradual tan, it’s usually on special offer somewhere. It doesn’t smell like fake tan, I always get compliments when I wear it as it’s a more coconut smell.

Justkoko · 30/07/2022 09:40

Not sure which to go for now. I used bond sands light to medium foam overnight, and while it's given me a subtle glow, I want something a little deeper for the holiday as I generally stay in the shade.
Am I best to get a gradual and top up daily or get a tanning foam - button it'd need to fade in between. I've got dove but never really built it up on my skin so im worried about taking something that will build up orangey!

OP please remember that even in the shade you will catch some sun. I burn like a crisp and do stay undercover (parasol/long sleeved top/loose trousers) at the hottest times, but I still come home with some brown bits. I can't understand applying fake tan whilst on holiday, juggling it with swimming and suncream!

UsernameIsAlreadyTaken · 30/07/2022 10:19

I would suggest instead of using Gradual tanner trying Lancaster tan maximiser after sun and using that post shower during your holiday and when you get home.

It deepens a natural tan and keeps it long lasting, I got back from a holiday abroad a month ago and using that religious my tan is miles better than when I first came back.

I've used it for years every time I holiday abroad, it's expensive but worth it.

I used gradual tanner abroad once and it seemed to go patchy combined with my natural tan even though I did the usual exfoliation etc

Steelesauce · 30/07/2022 10:32

I use the Palmers coco butter gradual tan. No nasty smell and its a lovely golden colour. I'm a redhead so pale as they come really and no chance of tanning. I'm going abroad next year and planned to take it and use daily. I've noticed since using it, I've not had sunburn even when I've completely forgot suncream!

Imissmoominmama · 30/07/2022 10:35

If you’re going on a plane, remember that if it’s over a certain volume, they’ll take it off you.

imstilljenny2 · 30/07/2022 11:18

I'm on holiday in the sun just now and I'm just using my normal fake tan every few days. I apply at night and wash off in the morning. I don't really see the point of a gradual tan as I've found they all smell to a certain degree and with a gradual fake tan you need to apply every day to get a decent colour. If you use a normal fake tan you only need to apply every few days.
However I'm at a hotel where there are freshwater/sea water and also chlorinated pools and have avoided the chlorinated ones so my fake tan is lasting a but longer.

Only if it’s cabin baggage

LoobyDop · 30/07/2022 11:52

The Bondi Sands in the blue bottle is the best I found. I liked the Pure one at first, but it’s too pale. And still smells and stains, despite the claims.

Imissmoominmama · 30/07/2022 12:18

@Deux - oh yes. I never check luggage in, so that hadn’t occurred to me. I’m a packing ninja 😁

Nsws2015 · 30/07/2022 13:40

I use the skinny tan gradual tan moisturiser, it's sooo good! I put it on at night and wake up with colour on my legs! The smell is a bit meh as with them all, but it soon fades. My 16 year old was stealing it to prep for her prom too 🤣

Justkoko · 30/07/2022 14:47

I don't really tan at all, which is why I'd prefer to take a nice product. Am tempted with bondi pure or st tropez now!

Biggreencactus · 30/07/2022 17:52

Bondi Sands website still sell the gradual foam, I thought it was discontinued so was pleased to see it on there.

Silverbirch2 · 30/07/2022 18:02

I dont tan at all and often use the Dove medium, but bought st tropez foam and the mitt- got a great colour- not too unnatural & no streaks! Reapplied after 3 days.

Justkoko · 30/07/2022 19:36

I'm very much between St tropez and bonfire sands. I've used the light medium foam before, how much darker is the dark.?

And has anyone tried the bondi sands aero express tan? I'm thinking after the day round the pool, put on for an hour then shower and go out for the evening. No having to sleep in it! Anyone tried this?
How often would I reapply? Is it going to go patchy and weird halfway through my holiday?

So glad for this thread, thanks I wanted to start one for the exact same thing
