Clothing for yoga

Am new to it and may be starting a class locally.

Just a bit confused about what will be appropriate, a vest preferable in summer but not loose as will ride up, although not so tight it restricts me.
For another layer in case temp drops, most tshirts would ride up!

What do other people wear? I see a lot of imagery online but it seems geared towards brand affiliation and perhaps unnecessary expense. Maybe I'm wrong?

I have some M&S capri leggings, so no issues with bottom half, but really confused about what's best for on top. I have a yoga vest with a built in bra but it is so difficult to get on and off it gives me the rage. I suppose all vests with built in bra's will be uncomfortable won't they?

I prefer strappy rather than wide vests, am a small build so don't need a ton of support, and I hate bra's in general, ah for a comfy solution that will give me dignity as well as comfort!

Any advice welcome.

Thanks everyone! Great ideas here. I agree that it is frightfully hot this summer and the idea of leggings is a torture. Those shorts with a layer underneath sound interesting.

I can't imagine choosing a tshirt in preference to a vest in this heat though. I like the plain vests at Bam, used to love the SB mindful yoga vests too but they don't do them anymore.

I used to do an Iyengar class which could be restorative (slow) requiring warm layers and socks, or really energetic and sweaty, depending on where you were in the cycle of classes. Close-fitting vests are good. You need a bra that you won't fall out of when upside down in a headstand or handstand (one woman revealed her entire frontage when her breasts fell out of her bra and the top of her vest). Leggings or shorts that are high in the waist and thick enough that you don't reveal your crack in the bending over positions - the Gap is good, as is Sweaty Betty. The latter is expensive, but lasts a long time. A good class will give you a nice long time in savasana at the end, so you will want to layer up again at that point.

Wear what you like but ensure you're comfy in it.

I've just bought some yoga/sports leggings from H&M, a medium control sports bra/crop top from them and a sort of loose vest from H&M too.

The most important thing is to be able to move properly in it.

I would say, ensure what you wear on your legs you can do certain leg poses with (balance) - I've tried in jogging bottoms and it doesn't really work. Anything really tight or loose I find doesn't work either and also make sure it's breathable or you don't get too hot in it.
