Crappy legs - insect bites

PeaceLoveAndCandy · 28/07/2022 11:27

My legs are my worst feature, they're short and thick. I look okay on knee high dresses, except I have to use a lot of fake tan because I'm incredibly white. To top it all up now, I am covered in insect bites, especially all around my ankles. I have scratched the bites so much that now I just have scabs that I know from previous summers they'll last months and will likely leave a scar. I know I shouldn't scratch but I think I do some of it in my sleep, they're so itchy. Is there anything I can do to help the healing of my skin? Is there anything I can do to prevent being bitten in the first place?

Sudocrem overnight. How are you getting the insect bites? Possibly some moisturiser with tea tree oil as a preventative.

Calendula cream for existing bites and lots vitamin c to speed up the healing.
Try a vitamin b complex to minimise the histamine reaction to scratching.
Bugs bite me more when I 've been drinking alcohol or eating sugary foods.
When you've been bitten use an anti histamine cream on the bite to stop the itch. Boots do Antihistan it works great. Finally an excellent tip I read here on Mumsnet is to heat a teaspoon in hot water and hold it on the bite to stop the insect bite becoming itchy in the first place. My legs are exactly like yours and I don't go anywhere without the antihistamine cream in summer.

Use a bug repellent spray with at least 50% deet and you will find this deters most biting bugs. Ensure you spray in the morning when you get up, and reapply late afternoon. Prevention is key.

I take antihistamine tablets daily for hayfever. A side effect is that I don't get bitten by insects as much as before and when I do the bites don't feel itchy

Use proper insect repellent. Boots do a good one in different strengths

Do you have pets? Flea bites are normally around the ankles. I'm incredibly sensitive to insect bites and I take an antihistamine daily and apply a cream directly to the bite. That normally stops the itching too much.

Daily antihistamines to stop the reactions. I've found various products that work well for bites and taking the itch out when I've reacted really badly, sudocrem is definitely the best. Use repellent every single day you're likely to be somewhere you'll be bitten. I really like calypso aftersun with repellant. You can get it in B&M.

I've got awfully scarred legs from years of insect bites - I'm really allergic to them and usually end up with cellulitis and needing antibiotics. Horsefly bites are by far the worst.

I've found Eucerin 10% Urea cream is amazing at helping the scars fade out. Swear by the stuff. I've actually been brave enough to wear skirts and dresses this year.
