Advice on Birkenstocks

I’ve just been advised by a podiatrist that my problem feet would be way better off encased in Birkenstocks. I know many of you ladies love them so I’m here for advice. I’ve worn the ones with just one strap in the past and found they rubbed my feet. Which would you recommend as the most comfortable style in terms of straps etc? I need to walk A LOT in them.

I have prescription orthotics in my regular shoes, so it's not that big of a change. But I've been wearing Madrids as my indoor shoes for over 20y, so I'm always used to them. Even before I had the prescription orthotics I found I could swap around between ordinary shoes and Birkenstocks with no difficulty. If anything, changing from my work shoes to my Madrids gave my feet a sigh of relief.

I have bunions and posterior tibial tendonitis and the birkenstocks really flared up the latter for me, I only wore them around the house and the injury was much worse afterwards. I was so sad to return them as they were lovely!

So they don’t rub between your toes, @Emmelina? How long did it take you to get used to wearing them?

I got this style this year. Pregnant, feet doing all sorts of weird things, have had plantar fasciitis previously and I have honestly worn nothing else since March. They haven't rubbed anywhere, I've walked miles upon miles in them and don't even think about it. I have the start of bunions too and no issues.
Baby due any day and I'm wondering how long before I have to think about wearing something else, not sure I want to!

I have mephisto helen which are quite similar to Mayari. I'm normally dreadful with a toe post but I now have no fewer than four pairs of Helen's....

They are really comfy. I think it is because the bulk of the pressure goes through the strap much further up your foot.

Same with the Arizona it transfers the weight / forces up your foot. I do quite like a heel strap though if I have to do a tonne of walking.

As an aside if I may, I always bought mine direct from the Birkenstock website in Germany but I haven't bought any since Brexit (that's how long they last!).

Has Brexit made a difference In terms of delivery times/taxes etc or is there a good UK website to use?

I buy them on the Birks website. Amazon is full of fakes.

Has anyone tried the soft footbed Arizona's ?

PoundPill · 28/07/2022 23:06

I had a pair of Madrids 15 years ago which were really comfy but I ruined them because I wore them straight after applying foot cream so they started to stink not long after.

I've ordered a pair of softbed Arizonas which I hope won't aggravate my sciatica. They're suede so hopefully won't need too much wearing in around the house
