there was a general switch 9 years ago and a significant drop in sale when gap kids expanded from london to the burbs and beyond, it officially became chav wear then.

Dd2 has a pink one which was dd1's, both of them have worn it to death and it is infact a bit small now, but dd2 still wears it.

I used to love GAP when we had one. I figured out how much the price of tops and jeans and other bits and bobs would be dropped by each time they had a sale, and I'd go in each week to check the prices and then eventually end up with tops for about £2.50 and jeans for £5.

hifi · 18/01/2008 16:41

no cos i know

magnolia74 · 18/01/2008 16:45

ok so how do you know?

Lol I am being flippant I know but I just don't see how Gap is now officially chavvy?
I mean do they have cartificate now or something with Best Chavvy Clothes on it?

magnolia74 · 18/01/2008 16:45

maybe a certificate

Saturn74 · 18/01/2008 16:46

The DSs have loads of these - they were two for £8 in the sale about three years ago.
I bought two in every colour!
They are virtually indestructible, and wash really well, and with my two, they need to!
They do look a bit odd when they wear them at the same time, though, and get in a right old strop when I make one of them go and change.

cornsilk · 18/01/2008 16:46

Ds1 won't wear his any more as someone at cubcamp told him it stood for 'gay and proud.'

Saturn74 · 18/01/2008 16:49

A toy demonstrator in Harrods, with rather a Child Catcher demeanour, stopped DS1, poked him in the chest, and said "oh no, you've got a hole in your hoodie. Ah, don't worry, it's just a GAP!"

How we all chortled.

hifi · 18/01/2008 16:57

only gap logo is chavvy, not the whole range, lots of bad press with criminals being released from jail in gap logo hoods, thats how it started.

bigspender30 · 18/01/2008 17:02

I wear GAP jeans and my lo wears a GAP hoodie. I had no idea we were chavs! My god, this could spark a new debate-do chavs know they are chavs????

hifi · 18/01/2008 17:04

the only range safe from chavs is Boden

imaginewittynamehere · 18/01/2008 17:06

I hate clothes with logos on - especially on young children

magnolia74 · 18/01/2008 17:06

Oh well I bloody hate Boden so I must be really chavvy

moljam · 18/01/2008 17:08

oh no.not that i actually care-although would rather ds wasnt seen as chav.i just got him cheapie well worn in hoodie on ebay!i thought it looked cute and comfy.

Fimbo · 18/01/2008 17:08

I live in the 5th best shopping city in the Uk and don't even have a KidsGap. So annoying. Luckily my dear mother sends me all the sale bargains she picks up for the dc in hers, her latest acquistion is age 13 knickers for my 9 year old. [hmm and sighs]

Fimbo · 18/01/2008 17:11

My dh has an ancient Gap hoodie which I think my bil may have acquired in Malaysia at some point in the 80's. He wears it to cut the lawn. He must be a chavvy gardener.

hifi · 18/01/2008 17:16

my dd has a pink logo that has been thru 4 nieces from 2001, still perfect, wears it to nursery, its a motessori and we havent been kicked out yet!
