Saltwater Boardwalk / Swimmers

Hi, I love my saltwater sandals but find they are a bit too flat for waking about all day in

Are the Boardwalk / Swimmers with the spongier sole nice? Do they look ok or fugly?

Torn between them and a pair of leather Teva Tirra sandals

Thanks 😊

I always avoided the original saltwaters as I figured they were too flat, but last year bought a pair of boardwalk and they are life changing. I’m on a long holiday at the moment and have pretty much worn them every day, walked almost 100km in them and they are super comfy and look brand new.

I would highly recommend them and fancy another pair but the lack of nice bright colours puts me off.

I say go for it!

Redrosegirlie · 20/07/2022 17:49

@RicitosdeOro I think I am maybe sold just from your answer. Thank you

i don’t want a brightly coloured pair. My not so old rose gold pair are really showing wear as the metallic stuff is peeling off the leather so thinking of navy or tan which would go with all clothes that I might be wearing 😊

Glad to help! I have the tan boardwalk and they have been worn for the last 4 weeks almost every day, including in the river, in the sea, on the beach, in dusty ground at a fairground, in grass and lots of long city walks. They honestly still look absolutely pristine - there’s not a mark on them - and I have even taken to wearing them out in the evening now too. They’re just too comfy to give up.

i was going to get another pair in white but was keen to get a bright pair rather than another pair of neutrals but the lack of colour options leads me back to white.

on balance, I think neutrals like tan or white would be the best colour for maximum wear as they go with everything and once you try them, you literally will want to wear them with everything.

happy shopping!

FourExcellentQuestions · 20/07/2022 18:03

I have the boardwalk in burgundy and they are so comfy. I also have a flat pair in tan and I do like them as well but find myself wearing the boardwalk more and more as the extra cushioning really makes a difference.

WrinklesShminkles · 20/07/2022 18:41

I have claret swimmers and tan original flat ones. The swimmers come up slightly narrower than the original ones but were fine once I'd soaked them. The swimmers are much more comfortable for walking on pavements. However, they still don't have much arch support, if that's important to you. The claret is a really nice colour - adds interest but doesn't scream for attention. They're my favourite sandals.

Redrosegirlie · 22/07/2022 09:50

You have all convinced me, thank you

The claret is a lovely colour so I have just been ordered the boardwalk in claret

I know this is old but I've just discovered these having had my originals for a few years. Would they get me through a city break with lots of walking ?

How was the colour? Wish I could go and see them irl somewhere.@Redrosegirlie @RicitosdeOro @WrinklesShminkles @FourExcellentQuestions

RicitosdeOro · 27/03/2023 18:50

@Justkoko 100% yes. I’m about to head to rome for a week and I’m packing saltwaters, superga and that’s it.

they're ideal for warm city breaks as very comfortable and I’ve walked miles in mine. Funny that you tagged me in this now as I’m literally in a quandary re whether or not to buy the white pair for this next trip!

ps I’ve name changed but was ricitos de oro 🤩

Justkoko · 27/03/2023 18:59

Oh! I'm wondering about these for rome in the summer! I'll be taking my supergas alongside! I'm not sure which colour I prefer, I like a good neutral though so maybe tan or the latte ones.

RicitosdeOro · 27/03/2023 19:10

@Justkoko are you me!? 🤣

I have the boardwalk in tan and they are awesome - go with everything. I do like the look of the latte but I’m probably too pale to get away with them. Happy holiday planning!

Redrosegirlie · 27/03/2023 23:02

I love them. I bought borardwalk in claret. I e just spent two weeks in the Caribbean in mine. I don't care what others think. They don't hurt my feet and that's that 😊

Thanks for replying @Redrosegirlie and @RicitosdeOro
I am now very very tempted. First issue is deciding between swimmers or boardwalk.
I already have 2 pairs of the flatter ones. Originals in bright red and retros in pewter. If only I could stick a squidgy sole on them!

So the second problem is colour. The red are beautiful, I never wear red clothes but this colour just pops for summer and looks so good with blue jeans.
My pewter ones go well with my skin tone. I try to have a bit of gradual tan on in the summer or I am somewhat blue!

I can't decide on colour. Red, white, navy, claret, latte, tan?
Is the claret quite bright or subdued? Some pics it looks bright and others it looks quite dark brown!

RicitosdeOro · 28/03/2023 21:11

I live for this type of convo. First world problems eh? I like the claret but decided they’re not neutral enough for me.

I wear a lot of red and navy so they were clear choices but I ruled out navy as just a bit too dark, I am also blue of skin tone and I am weird about wearing navy with black.

I love the idea of red but eventually after looking through all the pics I decided that for some of the colours I don’t like the contrast with the colour of the sole. I chose and am very happy with my tan ones. They look great with black, navy, white, khaki etc.

I really want a bright colour but I would need to be happy with the side view against that lighter sole. (Overthinking this? Moi?)

my next pair will either be white or I will wait until we’re away again and order the rose gold boardwalk maybe (they don’t do this one in the UK unfortunately).

swimmer or boardwalk is a personal style preference I guess. I personally prefer boardwalk as thought it was a bit more cool / retro and maybe slightly less fuddy duddy but there’s not much in it.

look forward to hearing what you opt for!

Justkoko · 31/03/2023 14:45

I really need to see these colours in the flesh. I keep changing my mind from tan, latte, white, navy, red...I already have flat red ones but the colour really is far more versatile than it seems. It just seems daft buying another pair of red, even though I know I'd get use out of them. I like navy too but again it depends on the shade as I do wear black sometimes and would want it to be doable. (I do sometimes mix dark blue snd black depending on the tones). With the neutral/tan it depends if they are more warm leaning or cooler in tone. A tan with a very yellow base can seem too much against my skin.

Justkoko · 31/03/2023 14:48

Ps @Redrosegirlie I also have teva tirra sandals! They are very comfortable and really I could take them with me when I think about it, but I'm now sold on the idea of some squidgy saltwaters!

Redrosegirlie · 31/03/2023 19:41

I have those too. IMO they are fugly compared to the saltwaters. Comfortable and practical but not as pretty 😊

OP posts:
Justkoko · 02/04/2023 19:17

Very true. I also found the straps stragely short. I'm not sure if they'll get a bit rubby/scratchy/tight.
Still tempted to get the saltwaters. Tempted with the red even though I have them in originals. They are so classic. I don't know anywhere that has them in store to view the colours.

AnSionnachGlic · 02/04/2023 20:07

This thread is very dangerous! Just bought Boardwalk sandals in white and Classic slide in Latte. Should see me through the summer...all I need now is some sun😎

RicitosdeOro · 05/04/2023 07:37

@AnSionnachGlic now I’m jealous! I’ve been eyeing up / considering the boardwalk in white for a year and haven’t done it yet but I have no doubt that I will shortly.

hope you’re happy with your new purchase!

Matchingcollarandcuffs · 05/04/2023 07:41

I have many pairs of flat salties but my aching bones demand passing, so I just bought some bungees in cobalt blue and they are just so gorgeous. I’ve never seen the colour in any other strike, and it will go with jeans and black which are my two tests.

i did have flats in red but I often have my toes in red polish and didn’t like them matching my shoes

honest, give the cobalt a look

Justkoko · 05/04/2023 16:07

I can't decide what to do. I can't pick a colour and I'm also considering birkenstock mayari sandals. They'll have arch support but not the softness. My ankles are a bit weak/hypermobile so I need something good and stable especially if it's cobbles.

Matchingcollarandcuffs · 05/04/2023 16:17

I have hEDS and like Mayaris for the support BUT find them v hard and can't wear them for long. tbh the only things I can wear are full on hotter/moshulu walking sandals, the salties feel softer and more cushioning than the birkies but no real arch support

I have to alternate, birkies for support, bungies for softness. I have bought some gold hotter sandals which are a bit soft but have arch support which MAY do both - tbh I'm at the stage that function is well taking precedence over form.

RicitosdeOro · 05/04/2023 18:00

@Justkoko for what it’s worth, I’ve done Rome in Birkenstocks (in my 30s) and they were ok for the first day or so but pretty inflexible for more than a day of walking. We’re here now and as a guide we are doing 15km/day with kids and I definitely don’t think I could even walk for half a day here in Birkenstocks (I’m in my 40s now!). Lots of cobbles and uneven surfaces.

hope that helps - not trying to persuade you that you need the salties but you actually do and not just for this holiday 😂

AnSionnachGlic · 05/04/2023 18:48

My saltwaters have arrived. I'm size 5.5 and quite narrow foot. I got size 6 but honestly found them snug. I read on the box that you should wet them and let them dry on your feet so they mould to your foot. So I wore them in the shower and around the house afterwards and they are now v comfy! Hopefully I'll get to wear them outside soon but still too chilly here to ditch the boots and socks!

Justkoko · 05/04/2023 19:11

@AnSionnachGlic ooh ate you keeping them both? What is the latte shade like, I like it but I'm very fair and wasn't sure how they'd be. Could you wear them with bright nails or fo you think they need something more subtle? I can't give up bright holiday toes!

@RicitosdeOro lucky! Wish I was there now! How are the salties serving?
