Find a cream with Urea in it, flexitol is one I use from time to time, there are others (some people dislike the medicinal smell of the flexitol, I don’t mind it at all).

greenacrylicpaint · 18/07/2022 22:14

bathe your feet in warm water.
add a tablespoon soda crystals and soak for a bit.
afterwards rub with the scratchiest towel you have and rub in foit cream.

if you can walk barefoot in sand from time to time.

RSitf · 18/07/2022 22:22

Hi thanks.
sorry should have said..
tried flexitol..and tons of other creams scrubs..it only temp helps for a matter of
hrs..then it’s like I haven’t done anything!
i remember going abroad
getting a pedicure and the guys looking at each other as they scraped away at my feet!
is it a condition?!

Get a foot scraper, it basically a razor blade in a metal holder that you (very gently and carefully) use to cut off the dried skin. Works like a dream but be very careful. You can get them on amazon.

thinkfast · 18/07/2022 22:27

I'm the same OP. I used to use the kid of blade a PP mentioned but I think it just made it grown back harder.

The only thing that works is to use a Margaret dabbs foot file for AGES 2 or 3 times a week plus plenty of urea based foot cream twice a day. I generally don't have the energy to keep this up. If someone else can recommend something less labour intensive I'd be grateful!

Neverendingdust · 18/07/2022 22:28

I suffer from this too, the cracking is made worse if I wear plastic sliders. It’s horrible and no matter what I do to get rid of it I suffer the same issues. Flexitol is ok but I think after a few days it stops working on holiday.

cherrypiepie · 18/07/2022 22:32

Do you have a electric foot file thing from a Amazon? About 17 quid. I do mine all the time in summer every few days. It's wearing sandals and I'm not good a remembering cream.

RSitf · 18/07/2022 22:53

Thanks all. @Ohsugarhoneyicetea @thinkfast I’ve got the blade tool..works for a day or so and back it is..it’s like my skin just re grows super fast?!
@cherrypiepie had one of those too, even ordered the extra course fittings for them to no avail.
I don’t get any sort of cracking

Footner socks! Best thing ever and the only thing I use for my feet

cherrypiepie · 19/07/2022 06:34

@RSitf there is a medical condition that causes this it I can't remember what it's called

HairyFeline · 19/07/2022 06:38

It’s not “Moccasin-type” athletes foot is it OP?
I had this a few years ago…total PITA to get rid of the rapid excess skin build up.

wibblewobbleball · 19/07/2022 06:49

It's called plantar hyperkertosis - it's a basically an over production of keratin, which causes thick hard skin on your feet. It's usually caused by excessive pressure. It's worth seeing a chiropodist, but usually they will remove some of the excess skin and suggest you use a high urea % cream, and come back regularly. They will also check your shoes to see if they could be the cause. Some people say it's caused by being overweight, which I am now, but I've had it since I was a child and I wasn't overweight until adulthood.

Battista · 19/07/2022 07:35

You could try soaking them in a warm salt-water foot bath a couple of times a day if you haven't tried that already? About 2 Tb table salt in a basin, soak for 15 mins (no longer than 20 as it then starts to become drying rather than softening). Then use the urea cream after.

toooldtocarewhoknows · 19/07/2022 10:55

Get a pedicure at a nail bar who use the scalpel tool.

Invest in a cream with 40% urea and use it every day. Preferably after soaking your feet.

Hard calluses and cracking skin on the heels can sometimes be a sign of the early onset of diabetes. I'd also get a blood test to rule this out. Any raised sugars in (pre- diabetic) bloods can affect feet.

If it is higher than normal sugars, after about 5 months of normal levels the hard skin disappears!

Whattheduck · 19/07/2022 15:52

My feet used to be like this I would never wear sandals .I started using a battery operated foot file followed by a foot scrub (I use the dirty works one ) then I use Avon lavender foot lotion.I do this every day and at night I put more of the lotion on my feet and a pair of socks and leave them on whilst it soaks in.My feet are so much better and I now feel comfortable wearing sandals.

user50and · 19/07/2022 16:07

I had this and ended up taking tablets prescribed by the GP for 6 months. Worked a treat but not great for your liver apparently...

Thighdentitycrisis · 19/07/2022 17:37

I have this too OP
I file, scalpel and polish but I comes back almost daily.
i also have really thick cuticles on my hands

RSitf · 19/07/2022 19:03

Thanks all, currently sat with feet in salty water! Think I’ll have to just get better at doing this more often
