Receding hairline - to fringe or not to fringe

I’ve noticed in recent photos, I look like I have an enormous forehead
And then the penny dropped that my hairline has receded

An obvious solution seems to be cutting a fringe to disguise my gigantic forehead, but it’s been actual decades since I had one, so I’m not sure if it is a good idea

I have really thin hair anyway, made worse by being 6m post partum and losing it in clumps every day, so am limited to which hair cuts/styles I can get

Does anyone have experience of hiding a big forehand with a clever haircut..?

I lost hair at the front, it’s never grown back, so I style mine forward to hide it.

Minoloso · 18/07/2022 12:30

Difficult to say without a pic. My hairline has receded too, but I find a centre part and graduated layers from mouth area helps. I have to use shampoo for fine hair to add body, thickening spray before I dry it at the roots, then dry volumising shampoo sprayed in after then hairspray! If I had a fringe it would be too thin. I prefer slimming my forehead from the sides.

I'm debating exactly the same OP. My hairdresser says it wouldn't work on me, but I'm really not sure why 🤔

Could you post an anon photo? What kind of fringe were you thinking?

Soggycrisps · 18/07/2022 15:17

If your hair is long can you hold it over your forehead to see what it would look like?

savemeagin · 18/07/2022 15:26

Go on eBay and search and buy a clip on fringe to see if it suits you. I do this a lot when wanting to try new hairstyles. You'll get one for a few £s.

Tiddlywinkly · 18/07/2022 17:12

Watching as I noticed some recession on my sides. 😥

SW1amp · 18/07/2022 17:32

Hope this works..!
not sure what sort of fringe, probably more long bangs (is that what they are called?!) than a Claudia Winkleman

But just something to hide the extra few inches of forehead I’ve acquired

It doesn't look like your hair will naturally fall forwards? Maybe ask a hairdresser or two for opinion

NFLBingo · 18/07/2022 17:44

I used to have a fringe, I loved it, after I had my youngest I got it but in again and it looked really odd as I’d lost hair at the front and so it was thinner on the sides and was taken from really far back. It’s thankfully grown a bit more now so would look fine again, but I found when my fringe looked strange I had to make it into a side parting with a side/sweeping fringe which seemed to minimise the change in my forehead at the time.

BlooberryBiskits · 18/07/2022 17:46

I think you need to ask a hairdresser because if your hair is thinning at the temples/hairline it might not give you a v full fringe

Some floppy layers (the Jen A look , obviously updated) might help

I have the same problem unfortunately so you have my sympathies

Minoloso · 18/07/2022 20:33

I think you look stunning OP! Have a look at some celebs, Lily Rose Depp has a high forehead and embraces it, Dakota Johnson too but has a fringe. I try to ease my hair forwards… here’s a my hair down & pulled back!

Daydreamsinsantafe · 18/07/2022 20:44

Are you sure your hairline has receded or has it always been that way and you’ve only just noticed?
To me it looks as though you just have a naturally high hairline and your hair grows backwards do you speak. I have the same look and a fringe doesn’t work. It doesn’t fall forwards but instead just parts and becomes side layers.
Im actually having my hairline surgically lowered next year because it’s just annoying now!

SW1amp · 18/07/2022 21:53

This is pre-DC

definitely much thicker hair but I’m sure my hairline is further forward all around my face?

A wispy fringe which then leads to longer layers framing your face might be really flattering?
I lost about half an inch on my hairline and more on the temples a couple of years ago, I used my DP’s Regaine and it’s grown back now,- now I have a really short fringe to contend with!

Thepossibility · 18/07/2022 22:00

I have a hairline like you. A fringe changed my life, kicking myself I didn't do it earlier.

SW1amp · 18/07/2022 22:20

@Thepossibility

can I ask what sort of fringe you have please!

whataloadabullocks · 18/07/2022 22:39

How about downloading an app which can show you what you'd look like with different hair styles? You look lovely so I think however you wear your hair you'll look good, but I find apps are quite fun for working out my next hair/ make up style.

Aquamarine1029 · 18/07/2022 22:43

I think you should try a curtain fringe with the shortest bit being in line with your mouth.

Minoloso · 19/07/2022 08:42

Also make sure you are eating enough protein & biotin (in eggs) and get some iron as a deficiency causes hair loss. Hair does grow back post partum.

Thepossibility · 19/07/2022 12:28

SW1amp · 18/07/2022 22:20

@Thepossibility

can I ask what sort of fringe you have please!

I would say it's sort of a shorter curtain fringe at the moment, but I've tried all types and I think they all look better than giant naked forehead!

Thepossibility · 19/07/2022 12:40

The two photos are from very different angles which makes a huge difference.
