Getting your colours done

clairebear610 · 15/07/2022 22:52

I'd really like to get my colours done but have people that have had it done found it worthwhile and useful? It seems expensive so want to make sure it would be beneficial. And do you think it's an exact science or could I get different suggestions depending on who I went to?

Are you able to recommend anywhere reasonably priced in the London/Surrey/Cheltenham area.

Thanks :-)

Cheltenham is a long way from London and Surrey!

I just googled it and worked it out for myself. It's not that hard.

I looked online and did it myself. Each company seems to have its own names for the diversions and don't have neutral which a lot of people in the UK are, think blue eyes and red hair

@GettingStuffed Yes! I am one of those blue eyed red haired people and the standard colour seasons absolutely don't match for me. I'm warmish toned skin (but not very warm), warm hair, cool eyes. So there are a bunch of colours and shades that look good on me but they are a mix of warm and cool. And there is no colour family/season from colour me beautiful where I DO look good in all the colours, there are always some in the category that are great but others that just look awful. And then some in a different category that look better.

So I'm planning to get a couple of friends together, each bring a collection of different colours from our wardrobes (scarves, tops etc) and share them to try together to figure out the best colours for each of us. Not sure how it will go but I'm hopeful!

I had it done a few years ago now as a Christmas present from my mum (very Bridget Jones).

It was interesting for me. I am fairly neutral. Light brown hair, grey eyes, pale skin. I am not obviously warm or cool toned. As a teen with my just 17 open me and my mates spent ages looking at the veins in my wrists!

According to my analysis I am a paintbox spring which is warm and bright. I do better with warm greens and turquoise and pinks than I do with warm yellows or oranges.

I can't deny that when I find 'my' colours I look a lot better. However unless I want to get everything from kettlewell it's really hard to find. I need chocolate brown and French navy as opposed to the cooler toned flatter navy in most shops. So I sort of given up and have a lot more black back in my day to day stuff as it just felt like another thing I couldn't get quite right.

I’ve had it done and it was really useful for me. Not just the colour family, though that was confirming what I suspected but wasn’t sure of as I’m not easy to type. What was great was the advice and support, also that it cuts down massively in shopping time for a disorganised person as I can ignore anything that won’t work.

I did the style consultation too after losing my way a bit after kids, and that was even better, I did use a really good consultant though for both (award winning but also I researched first to find someone I thought would be good for me and when we first met we just got on) and they have ongoing support and events.

This might be a cheaper option for you. There is a fb group too which you could have a look at first.

I think colour typing works better for some people than others, In particular if you are very pale wearing the right colours lifts you a bit. I love it, I’ve been interested in colour analysis for 17 years. I also think it’s about how to put colours together- Kettlewell have a section on their website for this. I think the key thing is very few people actually look good in black especially as we age.

I still can't tell if I'm Light Spring or Light Summer. I can't wear pale or light grey so I'm leaning towards Light Spring though there is no red in my hair now.
